Browse Forums Flooring & Floor Covering 1 Dec 30, 2011 12:47 am Hi all It's that time of your life when you unsure about your decisions... what if you got it wrong... What would people choose for the main living/dining area as well as kitchen floor. Porcelain tiles 600*600 or bamboo floor? Keeping in mind that we'd like to have white glossy kitchen (cupboards and benches). Thanks Re: Tiles or Bamboo flooring 2Dec 30, 2011 5:07 pm With my experience on all the polled flooring I would choose Bamboo. Reason being, it’s an extremely strong floor, wont crack and chip like tiles do. More water resistant than laminates and timber. Has more ecco friendly advantages as well. Bamboo king what would you suggest using to repair or fill in scratches?I ave the coffee colored bamboo, so when scratched it looks almost white where its scratched. Re: Tiles or Bamboo flooring 5Jan 05, 2012 8:16 am Hi Aubin
For 15years we have been importing timber look tiles from Spain. Hard wearing, maintenance free, environmentally friendly, and with the new digital print they vary from tile to tile in shade and pattern to look so real. Regarding chipping, any tile can chip. The thing to look for is a tile with movement in its design so a chip is hidden in the look of the tile. Note it would take something significant to chip a tile in the first place and what damage would that do to a timber floor in the same circumstance. You can change tiles but it is not a 5 minute job. Everything has pros and cons just need to work out what suits you best. The porcelain tiles needed steam mopping every couple of weeks. The bamboo needs Enjo mopping at least once a day. If you walk around bare foot on the bamboo you leave footprints and smudges that won't show on tiles. Given a second chance I'd go with tiles. Re: Tiles or Bamboo flooring 8Jan 08, 2012 10:03 am althom My bamboo floors are the same, I mop them almost every day, with wood floor cleaner, within a couple of hours they look filthy, just from footprints on them.am yet to find a way to keep them looking clean. Re: Tiles or Bamboo flooring 9Jan 08, 2012 10:40 am Been in this house for 13 months and the 600 x 600 porcelain tiles with matchng 300 x 300 tiles in the bathrooms and laundry, are (imho) the perfect choice, just wipe any spills with a barely damp microfibre cloth or mop and let the Roomba do the rest and the floor 'always' looks immaculate. On Xmas Eve I knocked a glass of Apple & Raspberry cordial from the Caesarstone bench, it went all over the porcelain tiles in the kitchen and I fully expected the grout might be stained, but nothing!! I've been selling some excess furniture etc through Gumtree/eBay and when people call to collect their items as soon as I open the front door and they see the porcelain tiles in the hall they immediately remove their shoes and comment how much time I must spend getting the floors to look so good!! To be honest I spend much less time cleaning floors in this house than in all previous houses put together. The Roomba is let loose as required, but that's usually only once a week, maybe twice if I've had visitors as living on black sand it does track inside easily. A wheel on the trolley broke when a dishwasher was being moved and of course the D/w went crashing onto the tiles....I didn't want to look, but when I did there wasn't a mark and it hit really hard. A large glass bottle full of chilled water fell from a shelf in the fridge door and it also hit the tiles with a crash and not damage to the floor...of course the bottle didn't survive but that was OK as long as the floor wasn't damaged. I've had polished, solid timber floors (not laminate) in previous houses and every time a fork or knife was dropped another mark was added to the floor. So for me, I'd choose porcelain again and again! Hope this helps? We wanted something light white-greyish colour. Do you have a picture of your tiles? We wanted porcelain tiles for main area but after reading some comments and looking at the poll we were a bit confused... but now... tiles all the way ... Thanks Re: Tiles or Bamboo flooring 11Jan 08, 2012 12:14 pm AGF if you lived over east I would invite you to come and have a look!! LOL Colour is light cream, I'll take a photo, but in the meantime they are a tad deeper than Dulux Grand Piano Quarter...which is the wall and architrave colour and a good contrast. The tile supplier had similar in light grey tones so you might be lucky. Hello Mary If the scratches looks white then an easy way is to use a permanent marker that is the same colour as the floor, and simply draw down the scratch and then lick your finger and rub your finger down the scratch to remove the excess. This will make the scratch blend in better. What are you using to clean your floors.I use the wood cleaner, but Ive used just water with some metho in it, to see how that goes. Hi HappyCamper I like the idea of the Roomba! How long have you been using it and how well does it work? 1 15753 1000000% definitely add insulation. I have in my home and it makes a big difference minimising sound transfer. Insulation is pretty cheap and definitely worth it 2 6191 Engineering timber is certainly a less fuss option, times cheaper to supply and install and better withstands humidity. 1 15907 |
