Browse Forums Flooring & Floor Covering 1 Dec 13, 2011 9:31 am So we had bamboo floors installed.Love the look of them, and was something I was happy to pay for rather than wood look lino. The installer [who is the flooring company owners son]arrived to do the floors on a tuesday, he had a construction key from the company as we were having our handover on the thursday. On the Thursday afternoon, while the installer was finishing our floors, which bamboo had all been finished and he was completing the bedrooms with carpet, we had our handover of house which was myself, my husband, and our superviser entering the dining and kitchen area, only, also the house superviser removed his boots straightaway on entering. There was lots of plasticrubbish and underlay and carpet leftovers in a pile on the middle of the floor, and dust too, but I happened to notice a couple of scratches in the floor, then upon closer inspection I noticed lots more scratches.I queried the installer about the scratches, whos response was'I dunno how they got there"!One of the larger scratches was where his toolbox was sitting. He had his tools and toolboxes and stands to cut the wood on, sitting on the bamboo without any underlay or anything underneath, which is what we think has caused the scratches.I spoke to the company owner[his dad], who came and had a look and basically did nothing, and the installer is saying there were people coming in and out etc, which is bull, as I had made sure all the tradies were pretty well done before floors were down.My husband did come inside while they were being installed, and my adult son walked inside about a metre, but that was all untill we had handover. The floors cost $5122, and Ive paid a total so far of $3600.I received the final account yesterday and had hoped they would have discounted the price due to the damage but they havnt. What does everyone else think, would you be disappointed with this?or am I just being pedantic?also we have manageed to move furniture in, and live here, and have managed to not damage the floors too much!I know we will but I dont think they should have been damaged by the installer. Re: bamboo floor scratched by installer, with photos. 2Dec 13, 2011 9:36 am It's obvious the damage is post install as the scratches go from one board to the next. How was the floor laid? floating? direct stick? battens? Depending on the method laid will determine how difficult it will be to redo certain parts. I'd hold off on the last payment and get it sorted by the installer. You can use the various consumer protection bodies in your state for backup. I certainly would not be happy with that and would have the installer redo all the damaged areas. I hope you haven't paid in full yet. Good luck. Re: bamboo floor scratched by installer, with photos. 4Mar 04, 2012 9:27 am Hi Just wondering, do you think Im being unreasonable, with this?when the company owner came and had a look at the floors, he wiped over them with some product, but didnt make any difference, just a cleaner I think. He said at that stage about him finding a product to use to fill the scratches, and also next time Im in store he'd chuck in a couple of floor mats.I havnt heard anything from them since then.I paid the remainder of the account minus $500.I emailed them and attached these photos, and explained I wasnt paying the last $500 due to the floors being scratched!I still have not been contacted, or my email acknowledged, but did receive another account for the $500.I am expecting another account in the next few days, and just not sure what to do.It still annoys me that the floors were left like this from the installer, and also that they did stuff all about it, but the scratches are less noticeable now, mostly because I have used a oil based product to cover the scratches.I havnt contacted any consumer company yet to actually find out my rights, and dont want to be a cow, so am i being unreasonable?my husband has said just pay it and be done with it, but it irks me as they havnt acknowledged my email or accepted any responsibility, or even contacted me about it. Re: bamboo floor scratched by installer, with photos. 5Mar 04, 2012 9:40 am I don't think you are being unreasonable, I think the supplier is not being unreasonable either... but has not delivered his compromise. Stick to your $500 until he returns with an alternative, if he takes you to VCAT or the like, he won't win, so unlikely I think. Under NCC standards and tolerances, this type of defect must be viewed from 1.5 m in "non-critical light" to be viewed as a defect. Make sure he knows you are still unhappy, and not that you simply won't pay.
