Mums are mums!!! We just can’t help ourselves. Have what you like, but for goodness sake, if it ends up being a problem, don’t let on to her! Don't worry I've already thought about that, I'll never be able to complain about it in her presence, never hear the end of it! We actually get on OK, just have different tastes, and I suppose because she's my mum she's allowed to say what she thinks. Well done on your book BTW!! Fantastic news. Re: Wool loop carpet 23Feb 28, 2008 8:59 pm Jo K Well done on your book BTW!! Fantastic news. Thanks Jo K. see how it goes. Internal and External Building and Colour Consultant Online - Worldwide http://www.denovoconcepts.com Re: Wool loop carpet 24Feb 28, 2008 9:21 pm Jo K OK, I know there another thread in this forum about negative comments, but showed my mum the samples of the carpet I like & she was quick to let me know that she didn't like them. Said that they would show everything because the carpet is the one colour & would be better if it had a "fleck"through it! I've done my best to choose a good quality carpet in a style I like which should be durable & a colour that should be serviceable, and I'm not changing my mind!!! Besides, as I said to her, you haven't really liked any of my choices so far, so why should this be any different YOUR MUM IS RIGHT.................. and so are you! Looking back over your posts, you keep mentioning the word 'DURABLE'. Let me make a point... A carpet must withstand an amazingly arduous lifetime. It is constantly walked on, sand and junk is deposited on/in it, it is sitting at the bottom of your living environment, with gravity constantly drawing every molecule of everything in the airspace into it. Then people will drop all sorts of compounds onto it, attack it with vacuum cleaners, and then expect it to look like new! Ok with care, it CAN keep looking good, BUT.......... I must explain what is reasonable to expect with regard to DURABILITY. A wool carpet consists of STAPLE FIBRES. That is, the wool fibres are hairs of finite length. They are spun into a yarn that is suitable for carpets. But being staple fibres, they can and do unravel and shed. YES the carpet will wear. Areas of heavy traffic will become noticeably thinner after just a few years. Within say 15 years, it may become white thin and even threadbare. This is normal. Synthetic fibres are different. They are normally constructed with CONTINUOUS FILAMENT fibres. Technically (by comparison) they wear very little, if at all. The traffic ways will become compressed, texture will change and it will look as ugly as hell, but it technically won't be worn. This fact is why they have all sorts of 'wear warranties' that sound so fantastic. If put to the test, the 'worn' areas would have the same carpet weight as the rest, so they can say it ain't worn. Little comfort to the consumer who bought the 'bulletproof' carpet. Wool carpets wear, but they age gracefully. With proper care, your 40oz wool loop pile carpet could be there for 15, 20 or 25 years, and still look and feel good. The worn areas will not detract greatly from the overall appearance (which has far greater importance). Ash. Ash, what you have said here is what I'm hoping for, a carpet that will still look & feel good in 20 years time, and yes I realise it will also need the proper care. I suppose the point I was trying to make (besides whinging about my mum ) was that it is hard to tick off all the boxes, and just when I thought I had I'm now told I should have more colour variation. Jo [/quote] Re: Wool loop carpet 26Feb 28, 2008 9:48 pm BTW Ash, with a carpet like this is the tuscan brown colour itself OK in not making things stand out? I probably vaccuum a couple of times a week, but I don't want to have to vaccuum everyday just because every bit of fluff etc stands out.
I suppose what I'm asking is should I be taking more notice of my mum & not just getting **** because she didn't gush over my selection!!! Re: Wool loop carpet 27Feb 28, 2008 9:52 pm Colour variation (or variation in texture or other features) DO help to disguise marks, stains etc. I've often made that point.
But so many CHOOSE a plain carpet. If that's your choice, then live with it. There is a positive side to this.... Far too often, if a carpet hides soil, stains etc, folk NEGLECT it. This leads to a poorly maintained carpet that becomes unhealthy. A carpet that is more plain will make you more inclined to tend to these things promptly (as you should anyway)! So, it can be a good thing to have a carpet that you can see when it needs attention. Ash. 1 11005 1 15753 they can, it's a fairly standard solution when the slab isn't recessed. the falls need to be in the main floor, if it hasn't been done then you need to ask them to redo… 4 6589 |
