Sealing Grouting

Hi all,

Wondering about sealing the tiles' grouting throughout our house, when the time comes to consider such things. Has anyone else done this, either at the time the tiles were laid, or after the fact? And was it worth investing however much dosh it took to get it done?

Fiona….some tiles are not meant to be sealed.

It depends on what type of tiles you are going to lay.
If you seal a tile that is at a gloss level, it will only peal off.

A true Terracotta tile should be sealed, other than that I would probably leave them alone.

Check with the people you are getting your tiles off, they will tell you yes or no on the type you choose.

Most grout that is used is cement based, and highly absorbent. For best service and stain resistence, YES it should be sealed at the time of installation or very soon after. Which type? There are many options. More on that later.

Not necessarily. Its best to have a professional do it, OR if you want a fairly quick & easy DIY job, Aquamix make an aerosol grout sealer. Its not their best performing sealer, but is designed to do a decent job for minimal $$.
