Re: TILE A WHOLE HOUSE 2Jul 30, 2011 1:50 pm as long as you have slippers or thick socks for winter its ok. Maybe rugs for a bit of warth in some rooms? Most of our bottom floor is tiled and I'm finding it a bit cool but I am going to love them in summer! Cleaning tiles is so much easier. All the dirt we see coming in with tradies in and out I am grateful for tiles, Imaging that on carpet oooo no. It's a personal thing if you like it do it. Re: TILE A WHOLE HOUSE 3Jul 30, 2011 1:57 pm so do u think tiles in bedrooms would b ok???and maybe rugs just here and there and when there dirty u can bin them???? thats what i was thinking for the bedrooms,as our daughters roll is oh my goodness,in saying that we have been here 18 years and our carpets are light blue so really its pretty good... Re: TILE A WHOLE HOUSE 6Jul 31, 2011 11:24 am Tiles, although easy to clean are damm cold on the feet. Our house has wooden floor boards in the old 1900's section of the house, and even in winter you can walk around in bare feet. When I go from the old section to the new section where it is all tiles on concrete slab, there is a big difference. My feet ache in minutes and the air in the room also a lot colder. Not good if you have arthritis. Also the acoustics of an all tiles house is not good. Your TV will sound hollow and echoes. When people start talking in groups it sounds like an Italian restaurant, all noise ! The dust bunnies you will get under the beds ECT... will blow your mind. Things that get dropped by accident, will shatter in a million pieces and get all over the room. What's easier for you, mopping an entire house or running the vac over the carpets ? Obviously in the end it's your choice, nut think hard about it. Re: TILE A WHOLE HOUSE 7Jul 31, 2011 11:43 am trishcoastie What do people think about having tile's in every room in a house??? Re: TILE A WHOLE HOUSE 8Jul 31, 2011 11:58 am My parents have tiles right through their house and it is cold and noisy. Re: TILE A WHOLE HOUSE 9Jul 31, 2011 12:08 pm Hard floors work best when they have been designed with the principles of 'solar passive gain' the coldness is converted to cool in summer and warm in winter if the above info is applied. I like bedrooms to be a cozy sanctuary using soft finishes. Trish, get a darker carpet and make the daughters put their makeup on in the bathroom. Or better yet tell them all when we move in its time for them ALL too move out!!!!! Re: TILE A WHOLE HOUSE 11Jul 31, 2011 1:38 pm I don't like tiles in the bedrooms, allot of the homes that I work in each day, have tiles throughout, these homes were built in the sixties and have never been updated. They are cold, hard work, you have to vac them and mop them, with carpet you only have to vac the floors. The ducted heating, makes fluff go all over these rooms, and the grout, omi, don't do it. Re: TILE A WHOLE HOUSE 12Jul 31, 2011 2:28 pm just telling my husband what the posts are in here as its him that really wants tiles in the whole house and our oldest son isnt happy with the idea of tiles in his bedroom... he cant believe we would even b thinking of doing this....bahahaha he said what do i wipe my feet on before i get into bed,its like wipe them on a door mat... no hes not happy at all..... Re: TILE A WHOLE HOUSE 13Jul 31, 2011 3:54 pm what about another flooring type instead of tiles?Somethign without grout to get grubby. wood flooring? cork? something warmer that won't be as harsh on ears or dropped items. Of course it can scratch instead. Re: TILE A WHOLE HOUSE 14Jul 31, 2011 4:24 pm MMMMM,im not a timber person and i dont think i would like cork either, but thanks anyways, i think we are going too go with all tiles ever though the son isnt happy.... Has he got any slippers? moccasins? thongs? bedsocks? We only carpeted 2 bedrooms and the study. Most of the tiles get sunshine on them. I'm worried about breaking things or cracking the tiles, but we'll cope. It is very noisy and echoes a lot but we haven't got any curtains or all our furniture in yet. Can always add rugs. Rather have tiles than timber. Re: TILE A WHOLE HOUSE 16Jul 31, 2011 5:24 pm What about vinyl planks? My girls wanted floor boards just like we had in our old house but we needed to cut costs. So we decided on vinyl planks and to be honest, I'm really happy about the idea. Maybe down the track when the kids are older we'll put the floor boards in but for now its a cost effective, yet also easy to clean and maintain. Vinyl isn't as cold as tiles either. Personally tiles throughout would frustrate me. I only have them where I have to have them. LOL Re: TILE A WHOLE HOUSE 17Jul 31, 2011 5:29 pm We're having tiles in all the living areas, plus the study - but the media room and bedrooms will have carpet. We just like a bit of warmth underfoot in those rooms. ETA: We've got a playroom for the kids (will be tiled), so I'm not worried as much about them trashing the bedroom carpet as there will be nothing in there but their beds and clothes. ~ trying to build our dream home by the sea ~ Re: TILE A WHOLE HOUSE 19Jul 31, 2011 5:31 pm now that sounds like a good compromise. Not as cold as tiles but certainly as easy to clean. Some of the planking is quite nice. Looking for advice on whether this variation in tile colour is acceptable.
