Browse Forums Flooring & Floor Covering 1 Jan 22, 2008 8:16 pm We are thinking about floating laminated floors (timber will just be too costly) for our house instead of tiles, including the kitchen. The laundry and bathrooms will of course be tiled.
Of course the builder will say that the cost will be much higher, even for laminated floors, so we wondered about telling him that we would prefer to not have tiles in the areas we want laminated, pay less for the house, and have the flooring done ourselves, separately. How easily is this sort of thing done - requesting something like provided tiling (this company provides tiling throughout the whole house) to be not done, and the cost of the whole house be dropped as a result? As Michelle has mentioned, this is pretty standard these days, but if you builder has included it in his costs, then i suppose you can request it be taken out...save yourself some money...and find what you really want. Flooring to the kitchen (tiled) is not required for a Cert. of Occupancy or anything like that, so it should be fine... Just chat with your builder and see how it goes???
