Browse Forums Flooring & Floor Covering 1 Jul 17, 2011 11:13 am Hello all. Have learnt quite a bit from this forum, and now am looking for advise now. I am getting bamboo flooring, not through the builder. Initially, I was going to get it done after handover. My reason was that since it is a pre-finished floor, if there is any damage to it via tradies etc, no one will take responsibility for it. I went to the supplier yesterday, and mentioned that to her. She said it is not going to look good if done after, esp in the kitchen. Along the walls she said we can get away with quads, but in the kitchen, it is not gonig to look good at all. I was going to soft nail the skirtings on the walls and have the installer hard nail them after installing the floor. However, that can't be done under the island bench and the kitchen cabinets. I don't want quads as I personally don't like them. I want to know what others have done, and how they prevent the floor getting damaged if they get the flooring done first? All feedback and suggestions welcome. Regards, K. Flooring - before or after? 2Jul 18, 2011 10:36 am Hi Kermut, We are doing our floors after handover too. We are laying bamboo flooring throughout and carpet to the BRs and HT. PD (our builder) is tiling the wet areas only. Our request at Tender was for them to tack the skirting boards only, so they could be removed, flooring laid, then refitted properly. This is so we wouldn't have quad / beading, which we hate too. PD basically said no, the skirting boards are either on or off. So we are leaving them off and will paint, cut and fit them after the floors are in. With the kitchen however, the best option suggested to us was to redo the laminate kick panels with a 10mm spacer to meet the expansion gap requirement and still avoid the beading. Or, another option is to get the quad done in a matching material / colour to the kitchen cabinetry instead of the flooring. Re: Flooring - before or after? 3Jul 21, 2011 12:46 pm Hi Rups, thanks for the reply. After speaking at lenght to the installer of the flooring, and the builder, I am going to do the floor install after handover. Soft nail the skirtings to have the floor go under them. Regards, K.
