Browse Forums Flooring & Floor Covering 1 Jul 10, 2011 8:52 am Hi all, our builder (well, we THINK we've found a builder!) includes an allowance for floor tiles, but I think they have to be ceramic. I really like the look of polished tiles so we will probably go with a polished ceramic. I was doing some googling to get some ideas, and I've noticed that the price for tiles varies a lot per square metre. We don't want to make the mistake of putting bad quality tiles in our home. I know that price does not always reflect quality, so I was wondering how do I determine the quality of a tile? What questions should I be asking the supplier? I'm no expert but from the info I have gathered on this forum, its best to go with Italian, Spanish, Portuguese etc tiles and not the Asian manufactured tiles that are somewhat cheaper. We have decided to do our flooring after handover which gives me a bit of tile to do some research and find the better quality tiles for the floors. I'm thinking glazed porcelain tiles for cleaning and maintenance reasons but still a bit unsure. There are useful threads on the forum about the pros and cons of different tiles. Good luck with your choice! __________________________________________________________________________________________________________________ All new built homes look like display homes... until the furniture goes in. Re: Ceramic floor tiles - how can you tell the quality? 3Jul 10, 2011 9:55 am Thanks Starz! We will definitely not go with the builders range of tiles, we will pay the difference to upgrade them as it's something I want to get right first go. I just wasn't sure what to ask the stores to ensure we get good quality ones. I'm a visual person and if it looks nice I'll want it! But I'm sure that that's not the way to judge quality. Lol!! Thank you for your advice, I'll steer clear of the Asian manufactured ones Custom downslope build Build thread viewtopic.php?f=31&t=61873 Blog http://www.buildingroyalmanor.blogspot.com.au Re: Ceramic floor tiles - how can you tell the quality? 4Jul 10, 2011 10:02 am Actually, do nice high gloss ceramic tiles even exist? My parents have an old house but and it has ceramic semi glazed tiles. Its worn nicely, a few cracks on the edge of the tiles here and there but they have had it for over 15 years. Porcelain is a lot stronger but like any shiny surface (gloss or polish) will take more effort to get it clean and keep it nice and shiny. __________________________________________________________________________________________________________________ All new built homes look like display homes... until the furniture goes in.
