We planned on installing brushbox solid timber flooring in our brand new home, but we are now having second thoughts. Was just wondering how much do floorboards really scratch? And is it really easy to damage them? And does having a matt finish or a gloss finish help against damage? Re: Floorboard help please!! 2Jun 24, 2011 8:00 am I'm not particularly objective but timber is great floor covering. Brushbox in particular is quite beautiful and hard. Its generally not the timber itself that scratches, but the finish. As an example of how hard wearing a timber floor can be - we have just refinished the floor in Old Parliament House. The coating and maintenance schedule we provided we expect will last longer than the staff working there. OPH gets around 300,000 visitors a year. The same system is used in the Portrait Gallery, National Museum etc in London - which both get millions of visitors. Having said that, yes of course if you don't take some deal of precautions there will be problems. Stilettos are a hassle, and you should clip pets nails and furniture protectors. As for sheen levels, the lower the sheen the less visible are problems. Most clients nowadays are settling on a Satin level of sheen Cheers Joe Apologies for the delay in getting back to you.
