Browse Forums Flooring & Floor Covering 1 Jun 14, 2011 8:50 pm Hey hope you all can help me, We are about to start building a house and havent made a definate decision on whether we use bamboo flooring or Laminate. We love the look and feel of bamboo but are very concearned bout dogs scratching the floors (they get very excited when we return home from work). I am currently in a rental property and it has laminate floors. they look ok but feel yucky. The hounds have gone crazy on these floors and have not even so much as scratched them. I really am torn as the what i should choose. by the way the hounds are Cocker Spaniels and weigh about 15kg each they are pretty boisterous though. PLEASE HELP!!!! Re: bamboo flooring and hounds.... How does it hold up? 2Jun 16, 2011 11:43 pm Hello Caseyb The only bamboo flooring to use is the compressed bamboo, this is twice as hard as jarrah and will with stand your two boisterous dogs, just make sure you clip their toe nails every six months. How does it hold up? 3Jun 17, 2011 7:58 pm Just out of curiosity with a customer and old client of mine on Tuesday I was showing them the compressed Bamboo flooring we sell…..I took to the sample with the sharp point of a steak knife!!!!! NOW, I don’t recommend you do this at your local flooring store. I can tell you now, I was impressed, not one mark! I know for a fact I can’t do that with any other type of flooring well sell. How does it hold up? 4Jun 17, 2011 8:07 pm I grew up with collies and different wooden floors - floating wood floors, parque <sp> we even stuck wood veneer to the floor! We didnt have problems with the actual wood scratching and scuffing, it was the varnish. do some research and look for a 2 pac varnish - i think glossy was better but the memory is getting a bit hazy. Re: bamboo flooring and hounds.... How does it hold up? 5Jun 17, 2011 8:11 pm I totally agree alt0160, 2 pack is great. I have no doubt the reason why the bamboo didn’t scratch is from the polyurethane coating it has on it and the amounts of coats that is used. How does it hold up? 6Jun 20, 2011 12:14 pm Thanks so much guys i appreciate your help. We went back on the weekend and looked at the bamboo and really do love the look and feel of it..... If the hounds have to wear puppy socks then so be it. Thanks again Re: bamboo flooring and hounds.... How does it hold up? 7Jun 20, 2011 2:01 pm lol @ socks, then they can clean and polish the floor as they scamper about! Re: bamboo flooring and hounds.... How does it hold up? 10Jul 11, 2011 7:34 am Just found out from a customer that bought a heap and laid it himself……it scratches! If I put a steak knife on it, can’t help wonder what he put on it to scratch it. The brand is Arrow Sun, but they all look pretty much the same. How does it hold up? 13Jul 14, 2011 1:22 pm Hi Michelle, Hope you can shed some light for me. I noticed at my local carpet court that they are heavily promoting The Arrow Sun brand. Knew you had mentioned it here, so am asking you. Carpet court used to deal with all the major brands before, ie crikey, genesis, arc etc. But not actively anymore. Is there a reason for that? So far from all my reading, Gensis bamboo is the only one with the lowest levels of formaldehyde, very close to E0. How does the arrow sun brand compare? I couldn't find anything on it on the internet. Are there any brands you would suggest to stay away from? If you don't feel comfortable naming brands publically, pls pm me. Regards, K. Re: bamboo flooring and hounds.... How does it hold up? 14Jul 14, 2011 7:23 pm Hi K….I’ve only been back at C/C now for 3 ½ months from 7 years out of the industry. When I first got back we also were selling Crickey Bamboo, which I thought looked really good, loved the colour range! I have to say, Arrow Sun looks VERY much like the same. I think……C/C stopped selling Crickey as they were selling online and cheaper than we could sell it for. I still like the brand, don’t know about Gensis. In all honesty, from what I can see, even with Bamboo Kings products, they are all very similar and good products. You need to make sure the Bamboo is compressed, this is giving it is strength, plus the products needs to be pre sealed with a few good coats of sealant. Good stuff, I don’t hesitate to show customers Bamboo….. and I push it! I’ve sold quite a bit now. Just found out from the wife of the guy who said his Bamboo scratched, she said it was hardly anything and his just a fussy man!!! Got to love a wife for ratting on her husband!
