BuildingACT FYI - The process of terrazzo, which uses marble pieces( softer and more porous than the aggregate bluestone [blue metal here]) so our aggregate requires no sealing... the addition of a densifier to harden and therefore allow a 'polished' finish to the cement/sand/silica side of things, stone is easily polished. ...though in Europe walnut oil and wax has been used as a barrier to accidental staining* . The polished concrete industry has flourished worldwide and doesn't always translate to a trade, more like an occupation. Though it is specialized and equipment and learning are expensive and like golf should not be learnt on the fairways * Note We do stain concrete, much like oil does (only we select the client selects the colour) and then we polish it, ...for retro fit polished concrete we use a wax product to void fill cracks etc, ...these repairs remain flexible and is the same colour as the floor and doesn't crack. To my understanding early saw cuts are to control shrinkage cracks, so doing them now would be pointless.
