Browse Forums Flooring & Floor Covering 1 Jan 13, 2008 6:36 am Could anyone recommend Polyurethane that offers a thick/high build/high gloss finish?
By high build I mean no open grain and very even surface. I have been considering Polycure's Polythane or Durapol, Toby's lustapol as barnsey suggested on other threads, also, my flooring guy uses Wattyl Estapol 7008 but I am not convinced if this product gives me what I am after. We will be using a sealer as the fist coat on spottem gum (80mm secret nailed over batten), and use Polyurethane for 2 coats. Should I use Polyrethane and do all 3 coats or will the use of sealer help me prevent some issues? Oh and the timber will be laid in the kitchen so would want some product that is less likely to whiten and the whole house is being renovated so we won't move anything in until the floor has cured sufficiently. Thanks in advance! Re: High build, gloss, thick polyurethane and coats 2Jan 13, 2008 8:00 pm Feast Watson Floorproof is a very good oil-based polyurethane. Exactly what type of 'sealer' are you planning on using? Generally you do not put anything on the floor prior to the poly.
Not sure what you mean by 'whitening' of the finish Make sure ALL plastering and painting is finished before laying the floor. Re: High build, gloss, thick polyurethane and coats 3Jan 13, 2008 8:39 pm Hi,
Thanks for the comment. Dukekamaya Exactly what type of 'sealer' are you planning on using? My flooring guy advised that he uses the sealer in the same Wattyl Estapol range. I just looked it up on the web it is probably Estapol Quick Dry Sealer? Quote: Generally you do not put anything on the floor prior to the poly. So you are saying to do simply 3 coats of Polyurethane? Quote: Not sure what you mean by 'whitening' of the finish I meant water whitening, especially in the kitchen. Thanks! Re: High build, gloss, thick polyurethane and coats 4Jan 13, 2008 9:04 pm I have never heard of water whitening a timber floor
Personally I would stay away from the likes of Wattyl, they are essentially a 'paint' brand that also makes some timber finishs. Go with a dedicated timber sealing manufacturer IMO Re: High build, gloss, thick polyurethane and coats 5Apr 17, 2008 4:54 pm What is wrong with an oil or wax, why does every one insist in covering their floors with a plastic coating?
If you must use polyurethane you might like to consider some of the water borne products. Normally you use builders bog.
