The house was built in 1970 so has old wooden floor boardoards, we would like to tile but one tiler that we got a quote from said that tiling wouldn't work as the tiles would crack on these old boards within a couple years, another tiler told us we could if we use cement sheeting with a flexible good grade adhesive. Belveder, we have never had a problem (if timber floors are solid) using 6mm cement sheet to lay floor tiles. You will see that the sheet is marked where all the screws should be; don't shortcut. Make sure you screw in at all the points. This should give you a solid base for your tiles. I have been working at a house this weekend that we tiled like this 8 years ago. It's been a rental & the floors are good as new. Edit: For goodness sake don't engage the first tiler.
