Craig Re: 60x60 tiles 4May 16, 2011 9:35 pm Thanks guys, We went and spoke to a couple of tile shops over the weekend and they all said the same thing. Our builder told us not to worry about laying them on a 'screed' bed, but after spending this much money on a new home I want to make sure it is done right Re: 60x60 tiles 8May 17, 2011 7:40 am Has your slab been laid? You can check yourself how flat it is. Even if it's not perfectly flat, if not too bad, some tilers can get away with glue only (they would touch up the floor with the glue to level out the dips). Not all tilers would do that, and most likely the floor won't be 100% flat even after this. My signature is distracting people from my wise posts ... Re: 60x60 tiles 9May 17, 2011 9:18 am Mrs P We just laid 600 porcelains. Tiler laid them straight down, our slab was pretty much perfectly flat though all the tiles are perfectly flush Same here - I tiled a reno house after removing the lino and carpet etc with no issues. Just debating now what to put in the new house - wood or tiles. Mrs P's pic has me swinging towards tiles again its all too hard...... Lex, no my slab hasn't been laid yet, maybe I should wait and see how flat it is, I think I will budgetto have a screed bedlaid, just in case Re: 60x60 tiles 12May 18, 2011 6:35 am Tip! Before they pour the slab tell the builder what tile size you are going to buy and that you need the floor as flat as can be. I have heard of owners buying a carton of beer for the concrete guys if they get make sure it is flat as possible. Craig Re: 60x60 tiles 13May 18, 2011 8:21 am Grout Perfect Tip! Re: 60x60 tiles 14May 18, 2011 11:00 pm Just one other tip - be careful if you are supplying a carton of beer for any tradies. It was always the "traditional" way of making sure you get a job well done, but now due to all the OHS and legalities etc it is creating major issues at some builders - ie. some builders are instructing trades not to accept alcohol because it can (and often is) consumed on site which creates insurance mayhem plus probably a pretty average job, and the fault can be turned back around on the client for supplying alcohol to a building site. If you must supply alcohol, make sure it's warm so they won't drink it (hopefully ) Firstly the ableflex that has been installed needs (manufactures specification) a sealant cap over the top, preventing water draining down between the slab and the… 3 7788 Our house was completed 8 years ago.
