Re: cleaning polish porcelain tiles 3Sep 01, 2011 6:00 pm I'm in that boat as well. I have been researching a bit on the net. Most of the advice is for a slightly abrasive cleaner - they are sold by tile shops. My tiler told me to at least have a go with a good ph neutral "everyday" type cleaner and see if it helps because the "scrubbing" method will be a heck of a job. Re: cleaning polish porcelain tiles 4Sep 02, 2011 2:03 pm Hi pedro, We have to organise this this weekend but as movingGal said you can get the solution from the tile shop where we bought our tiles. you mix it with water and just wash your tiles. just make sure you read the label properly. Our tiles have already washed ours and most of the wax has already come off with just a normal cleaner. see how you go Re: cleaning polish porcelain tiles 5Sep 02, 2011 3:55 pm I've just been through this site and found these bits and pieces which may be of interest:- Wax is easily removed buy Spirit Marble porcelain creme cleanser you can buy at any CTM tile shop or check spirit marbles website a 500 ml bottle will remove 80 m2 wax easy DIY. The reason is as mentioned above to protect the polish during transit we beleive China put it on there to hide there unseen haze and defects. In saying that we remove wax for a builders every week and they only buy top quality polished porcelains never from China and they get them for a great price due to bulk purchases. I've been following this thread with interest as we have 600x600 matt porcelain tiles. Regarding the wax coating -- the tile shop we purchased from told me to use Cleaning Vinegar in a 1:1 solution with boiling water. As I had never heard of Cleaning Vinegar I did not take their advice and tried all kinds of other specialist products with no success. I then tracked down the Cleaning Vinegar (yes...there it was in the cleaning aisle of the local supermarket) and it worked a treat! It removed the waxy coating *completely*. How To Maintain and clean your tiles and grout on a regular basis! Step 1. Vacuum or wipe the surface to get rid of dust or grit that could scratch. Step 2. Damp clean Clean the area with a damp (not wet) mop – preferably microfiber. Add some neutral pH 7 chemical to your warm water. The mop will ‘grab’ the surface and lift off most daily grime. Use some pressure to work the mop! Than dry the floor with a bath towel or terry towel, (try not to let the area you just cleaned dry on its own!) This is a very important step in keeping tiled floors and grout squeaky clean. Tip! Once you wet mop a floor the dirt is now emulsified and towel drying will remove the now dirty liquid leaving your tile and grout clean and free off contamination. Remember moisture evaporates - dirt does not. Whatever chemical you use, make sure to read the label first to ensure that it is a pH 7 Neutral floor cleaner as higher pH chemicals can re soil floors faster due to not being rinsed off after use. Re: cleaning polish porcelain tiles 9Oct 11, 2011 8:05 am We paid so much for our tiles we agreed the only thing to do was to get the professionals in to do it - he did it for $600 cash. I wouldn't risk damaging the tiles and to do it yourself would be a huge job!
