Browse Forums Flooring & Floor Covering 1 Mar 30, 2011 7:17 pm Hi. Was wondering if people wouldn't mind posting photos where their carpet meets tiles. We have a metal angle in place but the first tile has a chip (was laid this way). My builder says you won't see the chip because it will have a trim over it. Carpet people are saying they don't use the trim in these situations. I really need to see some examples of shat it looks like as I haven't had cRpet and tiles. Many thanks Donna Re: Where tiles meet carpet?? 2Mar 30, 2011 7:28 pm You can get something like this below for the trim, but that’s not the standard trim carpet layers use. When carpet is put up against tiles the they don’t use a trim at all, they just secure the carpet to the smooth edge so you see nothing but the carpet and the tile together. Seriously….. I would ask for the chipped tile to be removed and replaced Like ⋅ Add a comment ⋅ Pin to Ideaboard ⋅ Internal and External Building and Colour Consultant Online - Worldwide http://www.denovoconcepts.com Re: Where tiles meet carpet?? 3Mar 30, 2011 7:31 pm We have tile meeting carpet and there's an aluminium angle between the two. So when you look down you see carpet then 1.5 mm aluminium edge then tile. Nice and clean looking. NO TRIM! If a tile is chipped it should be replaced. Not hidden beneath a trim that will make the finish look ugly (in my opinion). My bathroom and toilet which were done years ago have grout between the angle and the tile which the leads to floor boards. The ensuite done by the new builder is the same. I was just talking to my parents and in their new house the tile comes right up to the angle with no grout between them. Which is normal? Does it matter? Thanks Donna Re: Where tiles meet carpet?? 6Mar 30, 2011 9:11 pm I have a metal strip, and it is covering a small chip in the tile!!!! It looks fine though, I think it is better than having the maybe sharp edge of the tile butting up against the carpet? or does this other angle thing you guys are talking about stop this? mine is just a teeny section in the doorway between our WIR & ensuite. we don't have carpet joining tiles anywhere else; if I did it might annoy me more I suppose. Re: Where tiles meet carpet?? 7Mar 30, 2011 9:34 pm I guess my biggest concern now is that if they replace the tile will the grout still match when they regrout. Could that potentially look worse than the silver trim? It is gunmetal grey grout. Re: Where tiles meet carpet?? 8Mar 31, 2011 6:06 am I would think that grout would easily colour match. It's only the one part and water (unlike brick mortar which depends on the sand used and sand cement ratio). We still have the old carpeting in the bedrooms (may replace it with timber laminate soon) and got a metal trim to cover the carpet edge (the edge of the carpet was fraying from being cut). I think with a new home the carpet just is laid neatly beside the tiles. Like ⋅ Add a comment ⋅ Pin to Ideaboard ⋅ Like ⋅ Add a comment ⋅ Pin to Ideaboard ⋅ The trim does not cover the tiles. It just sits beside it. Our tiler edges the finish of the tile with some metal thing by the looks of it (sorry I have no idea!). Very neat looking and much better than a strip. Does the same apply for where tiles meet timber flooring? What about where timber flooring meets concrete (ie garage) if the slab is the same level in both the garage and inside the house, but obviously lower in the garage once timber flooring is installed... Our timber layer wanted to use a plastic strip and we were mortified that we were paying so much for our timber and to finish it off with a plastic strip where it met the carpet would cheapen the look. He was just being lazy!! We now have it just butting up against the timber and it looks great. Where it has had to meet at the end of the planks of wood, they have just put another board across the end to make it neater. Re: Where tiles meet carpet?? 13Apr 02, 2011 1:00 pm Rizzo Where it has had to meet at the end of the planks of wood, they have just put another board across the end to make it neater. Wow. That sounds very neat. Any chance of seeing a pic? What about where you wet area tiles meet timber flooring, have they done the same thing there as well? Re: Where tiles meet carpet?? 14Apr 02, 2011 3:06 pm Excuse the crappy phone pics. There is a small lip, but nothing that you'd trip over. There is the metal strip used for tiling inbetween the two floors. The heights are slightly different so the edging board is graduated down slightly. Where the timber meets the carpet it looks the same as the pics above, only the edge board is also slightly graduated. The levels are not that different between the carpet and timber, so I can only assume it was done to avoid any chance of tripping over the lip. Re: Where tiles meet carpet?? 19Apr 02, 2011 9:28 pm Don't know. Our builder organized all of the flooring and we are happy with the end result, even with the differences in heights. Re: Where tiles meet carpet?? 20Apr 02, 2011 9:42 pm Wow rizzo!!! I love your doorway connection points between carpet and timber flooring!!! Ultra neat!!! 1 15756 1 11006 they can, it's a fairly standard solution when the slab isn't recessed. the falls need to be in the main floor, if it hasn't been done then you need to ask them to redo… 4 6590 |
