Browse Forums Flooring & Floor Covering 1 Mar 27, 2011 7:24 pm Has anyone had any experience with prefinished solid timber (19mm) floorboards? We have had a look at ReadyLay (by PM timber) and are trying to decide between these and a floating engineered floor (Silkwood by Boral). We want to get something that is reasonably easy to lay on an existing particle board subfloor. We want something durable that we won't ever have to replace but we don't want to have to sand and polish raw floorboards (pregnant wife and young child around so we don't want the smells). I haven't seen any reviews of ReadyLay or other prefinished solid timber floors anywhere, so hoping for some advice. The main questions I have are about the durability of the product, and whether it would be a problem that the edges have a slight bevel rather than being flat. Re: Prefinished solid timber floorboards 2Mar 30, 2011 6:38 pm I personally hate the bevelled edge, but it's there to mask the unevenness in the floor because the floor is already prefinished and it is assumed that the owner would not want to sand it right away. I did have a glance at a brand new full timber prefinished floor and it look very very good. I guess it has a little bit more "plastic" look to it than raw timber (once finished), but there are no fumes. Advantage of floating is that you can take it up easily (if it's truly floated). My signature is distracting people from my wise posts ... Engineering timber is certainly a less fuss option, times cheaper to supply and install and better withstands humidity. 1 15923 If this is a custom build then I would expect the builder to set out the door frame closer to the wall to avoid the gap between architrave and the wall and or specify… 9 8324 Hi All New to the forum and looking for some advice, has anyone else renovated an old miners cottage in or around Ballarat and been able to identify the flooring?
