Browse Forums Flooring & Floor Covering 1 Mar 26, 2011 9:08 pm does anyone know where to get decent but not too expensive reclaimed wood for internal floorboards in nsw????? i love old floorboards with all the natural variations, lumps and bumps and old nail holes. we lived in an old victorian house when we used to live in london and we sanded down the original floorboards which were amazing. i haven't found anything else that i really like. solid timber flooring is ok, but i much prefer something worn to contrast with the new build. our new home will be about 38 sq and most of it will be wooden floorboards so i need a decent amount. it doesn't need to match and can come from several sources as we can just group it into rooms or floors. has anyone had any luck sourcing it and does anyone have an idea of price? as my husband said, if it was really decent, we'd drive a truck to pick it up. cheers, Re: RECLAIMED WOOD-NSW/SYDNEY 2Mar 28, 2011 6:57 am We are looking too. I'll let you know if we score. It's just so easy living on old wood isn't it? I went into someone's house the other day who had a brand new floor and we were all too scared to walk anywhere. Re: RECLAIMED WOOD-NSW/SYDNEY 3Apr 02, 2011 6:41 pm Hi there Not too sure what "not too exspensive " is but.... We sourced salvaged 85 x 25 Brushbox flooring for the house I am building from Thors Hammer in Canberra. It was salvaged from the Westons Biscuit factory in Sydney a few years back and is gorgous old flooring for all the reasons you stated. Slavaged timber is also the most benign material you can use. We purchased about 150 m2 @ $56 m2, freight was about $200 to cart it down to my place on the far south coast. Thors are good to deal with, have a good range of flooring (both species and source). They are exspensive but their timber is very good and comes with much mojo. http://www.thors.com.au/category.php?id=32 here is their current stock and price list http://www.thors.com.au/res/File/Floori ... 20list.pdf There are also two other suppliers in Melbourne that I have dealt with for other salvaged timber for my place, both are good. Re: RECLAIMED WOOD-NSW/SYDNEY 5Apr 02, 2011 10:00 pm I love recycled timber, my house is full of it, floors, 13 large posts from the old Brisbane warf and four very long and old telegraph posts. Google salvages, Steve had great contacts. I love polished concrete to, we made our kitchen bench out of concrete ( did it ourselves) turned out ok. Maybe think of mixing the two together? Timber inlays or timbered areas such as dining. You should start a blog on your building adventure. Sarah Re: RECLAIMED WOOD-NSW/SYDNEY 6Apr 02, 2011 10:56 pm Sarah Do you have a blog of your place, it sounds fabulous. We are building a similar place atm with large remilled and salvage posts and beams, flooring etc. It has been a long process sourcing the timber but I love it and it adds so much soul to a building, little bits of other lives.
