Bamboo Flooring and Timber Flooring 90Mar 20, 2012 3:37 pm Re: Bamboo Flooring and Timber Flooring 92Aug 07, 2012 7:55 am Hi everyone, Going out to buy bamboo flooring this weekend (about 90sqm of it, not sure on the colour yet, but it will most likely be something similar to Nutmeg bamboo from Styleplantation that paulw11 posted earlier in this thread) and have found some great info about it on this forum, so joined to say thanks to everyone and was hoping to pick your brains a bit more to ensure i got all the info i need to make sure i purchase the right stuff. We will be covering our living areas, kitchen and our hallway with it. Correct me if I'm wrong but sound to me like there are really only a few thing that are a "must check" before buying: 1. Make sure it is strand woven/compressed. 2. Make sure it is grade A bamboo. 3. Make sure that it is 14mm thick. 4. How many coats of prefinished polyurethane (should be between 10-14 coats). 5. Make sure the warranty is a lengthy one, e.g. 20-30 years. 6. The length of each board should be 1850mm, rather than 950m, but this is a personal preference. Is all this info correct? Have I missed anything or is there anything else that should be checked before purchasing? All these questions are good as long as the place selling them are up front and honest about it. I mean it is not unheard of for some retailers to say all the right things in order to make a sale, but the information may not necessarily be true. Apologies if this is a negative way to look at it, but have had some bad experience in the past so I'm just trying to be as cautious as possible. Are there certain thing i should be looking for myself which might confirm what the retailer says is actually true? We are looking at buying from a place in Fairfield (Sydney) called Fushine Timber Flooring: http://www.fushinetimberfloors.com/ We will also check a place called UB Trading Pty Ltd. They don't have a website, but they do have an eBay store and according to the info there, they are selling a top notch quality bamboo flooring: http://www.ebay.com.au/itm/Strandwoven- ... 43b0921341 Has anyone ever heard of either of these 2 or better has anyone ever bought from them? If so, is the bamboo they are selling good quality? Any other advice, suggestion and/or recommendation would be highly appreciated. Cheers. You get what you pay for, like everything in life eBay has some wonderful bargains from time to time, but buying flooring from there would be pot luck in our opinion. The ONLY way to ensure you don't lose out is to buy a BRAND NAME product OR buy a floor from a BRAND NAME retailer. Then you have some degree of protection. A warranty is only as good as the the financial stability of those who provide it. The quality of a floor is only as good as the quality needs to be - in other words, brand name retailers have a much greater vested interest in only selling quality, becuase their brand name is at stake. As has been said before here on the forum, others (without a name to protect) in the industry can take your money, close down, open up under new names and play all sorts of games. If a price is too good to be true, then it probably is ! Be wary and considered and you will hopefully end up with a good floor. The UB Trading people i mentioned in my post have been in business for a while now and seem to have some good stuff if their ebay and facebook testimonials is anything to go by (their feedback on ebay is 100% from almost 100 transactions). I had a chat to them and they guarantee that it is Grade A, compressed bamboo and they have only 2 colours, Carbonised (coffee colour ) or Natural (blonde colour) and the cost is $33sqm supply only, which is extremely cheap and as you pointed out, if it sounds too good to be true... Either way, I'm obviously not buying until i see it, hence why i asked if apart from asking the above questions, is there a way of checking it to make sure they are truthful? Cheers. Re: Bamboo Flooring and Timber Flooring 95Aug 07, 2012 1:44 pm handmick Bamboo King handmick We r very very close to installing our strandwoven bamboo floor in our soon to be new build.....This must be the compressed type ur talking bout.....Ithink bamboo has come along way in recent years, especially with the colour range...We have purchased Australiana from Mosowood and we have also purchased matching decking....I think it will be THE feature of the house.... I think it is right to say you have to go for quality....like anything you get what you pay for......so if something seems too cheap...beware... As for the laying of it ...we were convinced not to stick down bamboo, which we intially wanted to do...so DP being a chippy is going to help me lay the stuff.. wer got the uniclic type... Here is a picture of what we are laying: Like ⋅ Add a comment ⋅ Pin to Ideaboard ⋅ Like ⋅ Add a comment ⋅ Pin to Ideaboard ⋅ Hello Sorry to say but the floor is out of different coloured boards not very consistance at all. If you like thats ok everybody has different taste. It looks like they are mixing the natural with the coffee. Here is a pic that is just natural. http://www.simplybamboo.com.au/gallerie ... ewimage-94 and one that is just coffee http://www.simplybamboo.com.au/gallerie ... ewimage-29 You think i didnt notice that it was three different colours.......I know other people on H1 with that flooring , so if you want to insult me and others on here go ahead. Actually I like the 3 colours....gives it more character. Very beautiful floors!! Re: Bamboo Flooring and Timber Flooring 96Aug 07, 2012 3:55 pm You can achieve the same by mixing two very seperate batch dates. Here is "Antique" but with some from one batch and some from a different batch to create a realistic looking timber style floor. These pictures are from one of our clients who built a small cabin in the country. Youllneverwalkalone, can you let me know how you get on with the UB Trading people. They seem to tick all the boxes.... Yep they sure do. Went over yesterday and everything looks good, so good in fact that I'm ordering from them in the next couple of days. The floor is quite good and they know what they are talking about. The cost is $33sqm plus $2.20 for the underlay or even less depending on the quantity ordered. They don't have a showroom as such, but they have everything you need to see at home and they are quite happy for people to go over and check it out. The warehouse is near Campbelltown. They only sell 2 colours, carbonised (coffee colour) and natural bamboo colour. The only bad thing IMO is the delivery charges, $150 regardless of the quantity or the delivery location. Quite steep in my opinion, but luckily I've got that organised through a family friend so we will pick it up ourselves. Engineering timber is certainly a less fuss option, times cheaper to supply and install and better withstands humidity. 1 15839 Staircases and sausages.
