Although it really needs to be re-polished there are no dents and a re-polish would make it look like new. I would do Jarrah again although I am partial to redgum too. I have seen old Jarrah floor boards, and they all have big gaps, due to the seasonal changes, also in my opinion jarrah look a bit old fashion these days and can have big colour differences from a dark red to a pink colour. The bamboo is a much better choice, is twice as hard as jarrah and a lot more stable, which means doesn`t move as much as any timber, so no gaps years later. Also bamboo is white ant resistant due to the fact that it is a grass not wood. Also they are pre-finished with 7 coats, which is a lot better than the 3 coats they put on when the sand and polish. To consistent. Timber is natural and sets of a nice modern house. Making it a standout. Not all floors are the same. It depends on the way it was installed and finished as well as the quality of the timber used at the beginning. I prefer a timber that is unique. In fact when i did my own house I put all the veins and different color board under fridges etc, these areas came up the best in the house. Re: Jarrah Solid Timber Flooring 6Mar 02, 2011 9:21 am We have about 110sqm of remilled/recycled jarrah with (with some karri) in our house. Made from old jetties and reclaimed wood so has screw holes, nail holes etc that we had clear filled with epoxy=> looks awesome with the feature. We have had some gapping in a few areas but I think that was more so because of poor acclimatisation before laying. Also as you can see with the other photos there is a very big difference in colour, you must of been the lucky one to get consistancy. Re: Jarrah Solid Timber Flooring 10Mar 03, 2011 9:09 am Bamboo King Also as you can see with the other photos there is a very big difference in colour, you must of been the lucky one to get consistancy. The colour/texture/feature variance was what made us choose this flooring, so don't forget many people want this. I really don't like the look of wooden floors that have no character and look like one homogenous piece of wood. We looked at lots of bamboo flooring options in our travels and to be truthful we think they looked terrible... and we looked in the upper price bracket for all of our floorings Re: Jarrah Solid Timber Flooring 11Mar 03, 2011 12:10 pm Nick H Bamboo King Also as you can see with the other photos there is a very big difference in colour, you must of been the lucky one to get consistancy. Each to their own on what they like, but I'm with you, I love timber flooring with a bit of variance. That's the reason we went with marri for all the grains, knots and variation. We walked into the timber place determined we were going to go for blackbutt, but as soon as we saw the marri we quickly changed our minds. Those floor pics are STUNNING! Re: Jarrah Solid Timber Flooring 12Mar 03, 2011 5:24 pm Hi Rizzo,I was thinking blackbutt,do you have pics of your marri floors I too love the variance of timber. Re: Jarrah Solid Timber Flooring 14Mar 03, 2011 8:37 pm WOW your floors looks amazing,I can just imagine how it will age beautiful.PS love your kitchen, thanks for pics. Engineering timber is certainly a less fuss option, times cheaper to supply and install and better withstands humidity. 1 15884 If this is a custom build then I would expect the builder to set out the door frame closer to the wall to avoid the gap between architrave and the wall and or specify… 9 8287 1000000% definitely add insulation. I have in my home and it makes a big difference minimising sound transfer. Insulation is pretty cheap and definitely worth it 2 6173 |
