Browse Forums Flooring & Floor Covering 1 Feb 20, 2011 9:43 pm Hi there We are renovating our unit and are looking to change the flooring from carpet to either floor tiles or floor boards. We also need to put in a built-in wardrobe. Do we change the flooring first or do we put in the wardrobe first? Many thanks in advance for your answers. Regards Re: Install Built-in Wardrobe Before or After Changing Floor 2Feb 20, 2011 11:14 pm I would definitely change the floors first, the built in wardrobe goes on top of the floor, and although you can elect to have a base built into your wardrobe so that you won't see the floor underneath (we did), I would think it's better to have a new floor underneath, rather than an old one which can never be changed. (We just changed from one carpet to another when doing our wardrobe, but ensured the new carpet was done first, so that the old carpet (which was very worn) was not stuck under there forever.) Re: Install Built-in Wardrobe Before or After Changing Floor 3Mar 05, 2011 10:10 pm We chose to do wardrobes first so that the tracks are screwed straight into the slab. The flooring people told us this was best. Not to screw the track into timber laminate flooring. We had carpet and wanted to change to timber laminate. The old wardrobe door tracks were screwed to the slab and carpet had been laid around it. So now the new wardrobe is on the slab and we'll lay timber laminate around it (in the bottom of the wardrobe too). I think it then makes it easier for the next person who lives there to change the flooring if need be as there's nothing trapped under the wardrobe door track. Renovating our 1970s home Re: Install Built-in Wardrobe Before or After Changing Floor 4Jun 06, 2011 9:45 am I'm facing the same problem. WIR before or after the carpet? The only problem with installing the carpet after the WIR is installed, is if someone wants to change the WIR to suit their taste, then they will have to re do the carpet! But I don't if it's more common down the track to want to change a WIR or change the carpet Our "Better Homes Queensland" Cairns Build viewtopic.php?f=31&t=40451 Current stage - 1st builder's clean done. Re: Install Built-in Wardrobe Before or After Changing Floor 5Jun 06, 2011 9:53 am I would say rip up the carpet, then install the wardrobe, then install new flooring of whatever type you want Probably a not bad thing to mention particle board should in case anyone else reading this got the two confused. 6 4897 How much are you ahead in payments compared to where the build is at?
