I think the length (ie. ultra tight fitting) of the boards is what bugs us the most ATM. We find that every corner wall - even though it looks totally OK - has a few mm of distortion (or some deviation from vertical) somewhere at the bottom. This distortion prevents the corner of the first board to sit tight up against the wall, so the board that comes next cannot fit, it's longer by some 2 mm plus/minus My signature is distracting people from my wise posts ... Re: Best tool for attaching Skirting Boards - UPDATE (: 23Mar 04, 2011 8:25 am Thanks Mark BTW, got a small tube (for starters and for some other job before this) of Bostik 'Gap Seal & Filler' - comes in a small tube (no need for caulking gun) so it's very handy, BUT I found this sealer a bit too runny - wondering if it will be the same with "No more gaps". Would "No more gaps" be very rigid (ie. crack later on with movement)? I suppose all these sealers are rigid ... My signature is distracting people from my wise posts ... Yeah, he did all the scribing too ). Fixing method? .... none so far , we just put them against the walls. Yes, there are some visible gaps against the walls (and of course a few against the uneven floor ), but I don't care about that. So, we would be ready for the 1-day nail gun soon ... BUT, it's tempting to just leave them as is . Our walls suffered a fair bit of rough treatment during flooring installation, so I'm wondering, if I am to repaint some walls within a year, can the skirts survive unattached that long?? The plan is to move the skirts away during repainting so I don't have to fiddle with painting around them. Not sure if they would warp, but I think it's highly likely (they are MDF). As I mentioned earlier, we have a few that we haven't touched (yet!) and they are fixed by nails every 60 cm approx. The parts between the fixings have bowed away from the wall, so they look wavy. Oh, and may I just say that we have the whitest glossiest skirts in the whole wide universe Oh and yes, we fixed one end of one skirt with a double sided tape . It was just to pull that end a tiny bit lower so we don't have a whopping 10mm gap over the floor . Looks OK! Oh and yes 2, we are no longer fixated on having a gap-free house! Gaps are natural . If we affix all the skirts one day, I'm not sure that I would rush and cover all the little hairline gaps - unless they start to widen later on and become obviously wavy My signature is distracting people from my wise posts ...
