Browse Forums Flooring & Floor Covering Re: Waterborne polyurethane- has anyone had any used it 2Feb 07, 2011 7:45 pm There are several brands most commonly used in Aus - which brand and which product are they suggesting? Some are better than others. Ours is Bona Traffic (where Bona=manufacturer/brand, Traffic=product). My signature is distracting people from my wise posts ... Re: Waterborne polyurethane- has anyone had any used it 4Feb 07, 2011 8:19 pm Most likely going to be a Bona product Either Mega - the residential product (matt, satin or gloss) or Traffic - the commercial product (matt or satin) I use Bona products extensively and think they are top rate. They are non-toxic and are non-yellowing, meaning they dont go that honey yellow colour that all floors finished with solvent based products go. Re: Waterborne polyurethane- has anyone had any used it 5Feb 08, 2011 6:50 am I love Traffic, mostly for allowing the true timber colour to show and for no maintenance (unlike with oil based coatings). And, possibly surprising for some, their Satin (Traffic) looks so shiny that I'd never say it's only about 45% gloss (in whichever way they set this measure) . While we're on this, Namtrak if you don't mind me asking (just out of interest) - why is it that the primer (Intense) often leaves small dark roller marks? What is it that the person does (or doesn't do) which creates this small imperfection? Also, sometimes some people leave a lighter coloured areas (like little clouds), as if they didn't overlap when rolling the primer on, but rather left a patch of uncoated timber (I think this is also when applying the primer) ?? Most likely the finish has dried to some degree before coming back to it. The thing I find with the Bona products is that they like on thick. Dont work too far in front of your edges and stick the bottles in hot water for 5 minutes before using them. Most likely the coat has gone on too thin in that area. Re: Waterborne polyurethane- has anyone had any used it 9Feb 09, 2011 9:33 am What do you mean Donna? Shinier than what?? As I said, Traffic in satin is about 45% gloss (according to Bona site and according to the way they determine this measure - which is unknown to me) and it looks quite shiny when cured. It is shinier than I expected, considering the stated 45% gloss level. My signature is distracting people from my wise posts ... Re: Waterborne polyurethane- has anyone had any used it 11Feb 09, 2011 7:15 pm If by "2 PAC" you mean 2 pack solvent based polyurethane (water based polyurethanes also come as 2 pack), then you'd need to find out what is its % gloss level in satin. I never looked into solvent coatings, so I don't know if different brands have different gloss levels for satin (which is the case with water based coatings). That is - if you want to be really precise and know what you'll be comparing. My signature is distracting people from my wise posts ... Normally you use builders bog.
