Browse Forums Flooring & Floor Covering 1 Feb 07, 2011 6:22 pm We are putting strand bamboo flooring through the main living and hall area of our new house (bamboo flooring and underlay are 15mm thick) and have been given the option for the skirting in these areas to be left off so the flooring can be laid, and the the carpenter and painter coming back after to fit and paint the skirting in these areas. This sounds like the best way to get a neat finish to the skirting and flooring (avoiding beading) but I'm now wondering what happens about the architraves round the door ways - these also run to the floor and the bamboo flooring will need to fit nder these - so how do these end up being the right height? The other option would be to have the flooring laid and then cover this with something to give it come protection from the workman walking through the house (any suggestions on what to use?). Any answers/suggestions would be greatly appreciated as we need to make a decision on what we do very soon! Thanks Re: Laying Bamboo Flooring - During build or after? 2Feb 07, 2011 10:19 pm Our bamboo was put in during the build. Exactly what you said and we didn't want the 'quad' - skirtings left off and fitted/painted afterwards. Kitchen was already in - kicks left off until finished and coloured silicone used around island bench. I don't exactly know what they did with the doors and we're not quite in yet so I can't look for you. It's a seamless look whatever was done. Not sure about protection, I know they spoke about putting stuff down for tradies to walk on, but never actually saw it. There are a couple of minor scratch areas that the trades caused (and was picked up in PCI by private inspector), but I'm not too fussed to be honest, I didn't really notice. It's a floor to be walked on as far as I'm concerned. Re: Laying Bamboo Flooring - During build or after? 3Feb 12, 2011 11:23 pm The Bamboo most of the time is cut around the door frames, is very hard to cut the architraves and then click the flooring underneath, so yes cutting around is best option if the architraves are already installed.
