Browse Forums Flooring & Floor Covering 1 Jan 22, 2011 12:47 am Hi I have built a new house and have had compressed bamboo flooring for the entire house. Due to the Xmas holidays and being busy with work, i haven't moved into the house as yet. So the floating bamboo flooring has been laid in the house for about 3 months. I am about to move in and i've noticed that the longest sides of every single edge is lifting from the floor. It springs up and down when i walk on the edges of the floor. It is through all the 4 bedrooms, dining and kitchen. This is definately not normal and the installer came and said it is because i didnt move into the house straight away and says he has never seen this before. I don't think this is the case though. He wants to nail all the sides down as a solution. I'm a bit concerned as there will be 100's of nails that will be placed throughout the house. Plus you can also see the nails protruding if you look against the wall. Has anyone experienced this problem? or know how to solve this without using nails? If we get a the proper Australian board to see this, it will cost $300 for the inspection and then another $700 to fix - which is a bit much to pay. Thanks Bee Re: Bamboo floor lifting - help 2Jan 23, 2011 7:53 am Hi Bee, I'm sorry that I don't have an answer to your question however I would like to know if you could PM me and let me know which firm you went through to buy the Bamboo flooring, please. Our new home is in the process of being built (also in Perth) and Bamboo was our prefered floor covering for the main section of house. Like you, we will not be moving into the house immediately Many thanks. Supergran Re: Bamboo floor lifting - help 3Jan 23, 2011 2:30 pm Hi Eagle, did you get click boards or just tongue and groove? Also is it just in one section or the entire house? Re: Bamboo floor lifting - help 5Jan 24, 2011 5:03 pm The bamboo is compressed in natural colour. It isn't the ones with the lines you usually see in bamboo floors, as the wood has been compressed together, it is more of a plain light coloured wood. I also think it is the tongue and groove...but im not too sure as i can't find this detail anywhere. But it is floating. The faults are throughout the entire house. Good news is that they have been super fast in getting back to us. We let them know on Friday and they have responded to us today and fixing this tomorrow morning. So this is great in terms of customer service. I'm just crossing my fingers that this will be fixed without any major issues. I'll let you know the outcome... Cheers Bee Re: Bamboo floor lifting - help 6Jan 24, 2011 6:18 pm What nails can you see near the wall ? Floating floors do not get nailed so there should be no nails. What are they going to nail the boards down to is it on concrete or partical board upstairs either way it wont work if they nail to partical board it will expand then the nails will squeak when you walk on it not to mention it will look crap it sounds like a problem with the bamboo to me can you post some pics. Re: Bamboo floor lifting - help 7Jan 24, 2011 6:27 pm If the problem is throughout the entire house, it might either because of the quality issues or installation issues. The floorboards might have been installed too tightly and hence are beginning to lift and rise now. Although its already being fixed, one way you could have perhaps decreased the amount of 'lifting' is by trying to 'loosen' the boards. To do this you could have taken off the floorboard closest to the wall, then straightened the rest of flooring until it * flat and cut a bit off a bit off the floorboard closest to the wall before putting it back. Anyway, I hope your problem gets fixed and please keep us updated. ![]() Re: Bamboo floor lifting - help 8Jan 25, 2011 7:28 am Hi Bee, Received your PM and replied (not sure however whether it got to you as I find the PM system a bit hard to understand - the emails never seem to leave the outbox ![]() We are going to go through Bamboozle (who laid my son's bamboo floors 3 years back) and so far he hasn't had a problem. All the best with your repair job and I do hope they can fix the floor up properly for you. LMAO. What a ridiculous thing to say! Obviously it is not right and you moving in would not have changed it. Re: Bamboo floor lifting - help 11Jan 26, 2011 12:15 am Thanks for all your responses. I got our floors fixed today. The owner even watched the installer the whole day from (8am - 6pm), so he was really great. They replaced most of the sides, but there are some sides that are lifting still, but we are waiting on the glue to dry first, then relooking at this. The owner said he will help fix this no matter what. He also said he will pay for the paint damage and if the installer can't fix this, he will pay for another installer of our choice to help fix it too. So all in all, it was great customer service. In the end we didnt get any nails put on the floor board to the concrete floor, they have glued the skirting boards only. The installer originally wanted to put nails down, but we were against this idea as not only could you see them, it wasn't the right thing to do. There isn't any moisture issues and I have only mopped the floor with a damp mop (with barely any water). The company said it may be due to the weather, but I think it is due to poor installation. But I'm happy with the company's response to the problem and they have acted promptly in fixing it without any issues.
