Browse Forums Flooring & Floor Covering 1 Jan 20, 2011 2:06 am I'm wanting to do best job that can be done in sound-prooing an attic. I got caught out on some earlier steps I could have taken but, after (finally!) consulting a sound proofing "pro", it was suggested laying 8kg/sq mtr WaveBar over the floor joists, before laying (25 sq mtrs) yellow-tongue, would have been the way to go. Unfortunately my timing there in seeing that this step was implemented was again a tad suspect and b4 I knew it, YT had been nailed and seriously glued directly onto the joists and structure-borne noise became even further intrenched into the system! The builders doing my renovation say that removing the YT (I'm not interested in saving the YT that's on there!) would be a nightmare. They say the glue is so strong you'd end up ripping chunks of LVL with it and it would take days . . .? My thoughts would be to saw out the YT between the joists then find some way to run a saw (or grinder with frapper . . ?) horizontally, cutting the YT off at the top of the LVL. I know there's a slight issue with hitting nails but . . . would anyone have any suggestions please? Something that might cut both timber, glue and nails? Some have said "Just forget about it! You're too late. Float another floor on top of that instead. The numbers say there's only a couple of DB in it". The problem there is borderline (difference of 15mm) head height and I've been trying to claw back height by the millimetre, right fom the outset, including going down on flexed patella, begging, cursing & bribing my structual engineer! (He eventually relented and managed to find a way to reduce LVLs from 225 to 170 . . . ?) I should point out that the situation is a little complex. It's not just a case of six or seven LVLs placed neatly 600mm apart. There are the occasional 3 LVLs hard-up, side by side only 200mm from another LVL or even a steel beam (This place ain't gonna fall down too easy!) Getting rid of mids & highs is pretty simple but the low-end, the structure-borne stuff, is pretty hard to stop! Hi guys, I want to do some floor levelling before laying the planks and am considering doing it with self-levelling or yellow tongue PB board. I am wondering which one… 0 3928 Thanks for all replies. I just noticed now the pictures I added to post right on top of page were wrong.
