Browse Forums Flooring & Floor Covering 1 Jan 13, 2011 10:39 am Hi All First time I'm here. My new house is about to be finished, and I really want a proper wood floor, but I don't have unlimited funds. The cheapest option I have found is parquet floors. For 322 L 80 W 14 T pieces I can get a pallett for around $ 50. I have a found a floor layer to do the job for $ 45 per sqm. So far so good, however for sanding and finishing I need another $ 33 per sqm which blows my budget. So my question is, how hard is it to do the sanding/finishing on my own? I know that parquet is a bit more difficult due to the different grain directions. The pattern I want is brickbond, so I was wondering if I could do that pattern but ask the floor layer to put all the pieces with the grain in one direction? Will that look bad? If the grain direction has to be different, how would I sand it and what equipment would I need? Could I do the sanding lengthwise (due to the brickbond pattern) but do one pass each way? I am planning to do around 90 sqm total. Any advice or ideas would be greatly appreciated.
