Browse Forums Flooring & Floor Covering 1 Jan 11, 2011 8:46 pm Hi forum and timber floor lovers/experts. If possible I would like to draw on your more than generous advice on timber floors. Can anyone ID the species of wood from these photos? http://img203.imageshack.us/g/8520537.jpg/ Can anyone recommend a reputable timber secret nail strip flooring (19mm x 80mm) supplier in Melbourne? What sort of things should I look out for or questions should I ask when buying timber strip flooring? I am going to be laying 19mm x 80mm over 12mm plywood base. What type/brand of glue should I use in addition to the secret nail? Instead of top nailing the boards closest to the walls (except maybe the first and last boards) is it possible to use a brad nailer through the tongue instead? I am having the existing sealed floors sanded and re-finished. What sort of things should I look out for or questions should I ask/require of the sander? I would like to have as a finish that is - as possible (to avoid that yellowy-orange tinge) - something on which the scratches wont show up as much -preferably not a two pack polyurethane finish (I assume scratches show up readily??). Can anyone point me to any advice on the type of commonly used finishes and their strengths and weaknesses. I realise this is a big ask but any advice you can provide would be greatly appreciated.
