Browse Forums Flooring & Floor Covering 1 Dec 05, 2010 7:51 pm Hi All. New to this forum. Looking for flooring advice. Currently have carpet. Am considering floating floorboards. Home is split level townhouse. Front door is on "mezzanine" level. What are the considerations in having stairs to/from front door done in floating floorboards? Is slipping a factor? And how do you know what type of floating floorboards? Would need to be very hard wearing as they would take alot of wear and tear everyday on the stairs. I like carpet, but have north sun all day, all year. A dark carpet would fade. But light colours not practicle. Does sun affect floorboards too? Thanks in advance for any advice. Re: Timber versus Carpet 2Dec 05, 2010 9:50 pm Floating boards on stairs are ugly (due to trims used), are expensive and I feel a bit dangerous. Buy an SDN or Smartstrand IQ150 and your colour will not change for 15 years or you'll have valid claim on your warranty. Simple. They are warranted against fading in sunlight for that period. Save lots of $$$ too plus alot safer. Re: Timber versus Carpet 3Dec 05, 2010 10:02 pm We have carpet on stairs. House is about 12-15 years old. Our Crazy Owner Builder Journey! Thank you. Do I use timber floorboards for stairs or do people use timber treads? Or is both the same? 6 7591 Engineering timber is certainly a less fuss option, times cheaper to supply and install and better withstands humidity. 1 16228 1 16167 |
