Browse Forums Flooring & Floor Covering 1 Dec 02, 2010 8:20 pm Hi guys, We got the tiling quote back from Dilorenzo and are now trying to decide whether we should proceed with the italian matt tiles that we selected. Now I am interested in some feedback on those that have them for their main living areas and if anyone has any photos whether they could share them. The tiles that we are have selected as an option are the Pietre/2 fiora... but is it worth the extra 7k for 74sqm of tiling ....... so undecided Appreciate your opinions in helping us to decide... Craig Re: Show us your matt porcelain tiling 3Dec 08, 2010 2:11 pm Don't have pics right now but we've used matt porcelain in a living area and it still looks great after 5 years. This is in a rental property. My tiles are also completely matt but are natural stone. i absolutely love the look & find it more sophisticated. Tiles in a living area can give a cold feel, especially in the more temperate areas of Oz, and I think gloss enhances seems even colder. If you prefer matt too, I would encourage you to get what you love. Re: Show us your matt porcelain tiling 4Dec 08, 2010 3:18 pm I should note, there are some matt finish tiles on the market that are great but it all depends on the quality of the clay and how they are fired. A simple test is to try and stain it with some red cordial or mud, if it stains than do not buy try and find one that is non staining you will be glad you did. We got our supplier to provide a sample piece and tried staining it overnight with red wine, soy, sweet soy, perm marker.. All came out easily cept for the perm marker which took a bit of work. I would want to hope so as the tiles we chose are $120/sqm italian tiles so i guess that they have passed the test as when we first looked at them they actually seemed really delicate but after the tests it seems that they could handle a beating so i think will proceed with this choice.. Were we looking at the same tile, only "ours" were not matt?! Do you know if Di L. would give you a tile to bring home and test, or did you somehow get the supplier's name from them and got it there? (You are in Syd, aren't you?) The tiles we were looking at were Pietre/2 fiora... so maybe coincidence that they could be the same as for sample tiles.. we found that di lo out at norwest was tight with giving us samples.. (even with these more expensive ranges.. however we went to the CBD/SUrry Hills showroom... and whilst it is a tiny showroom found that the guys here spent more time with you as they aren't as busy and will give you samples (if they have them). I think we got ours on sale for around $100 but they are definitely Italian made. Re: Show us your matt porcelain tiling 10Dec 20, 2010 7:08 am Very nice qonyx they look great, the grout on the other hand may not stay that white for long here is some info on maintainance for you. Maintain and clean your tile and grout on a regular basis! Step 1. Vacuum or wipe the surface to get rid of dust or grit that could scratch. Step 2. Damp clean Clean the area with a damp (not wet) mop – preferably microfiber. Add some neutral pH 7 chemical to your warm water, such as Grout Perfects maintain. The mop will ‘grab’ the surface and lift off most daily grime. Use some pressure to work the mop! Than dry the floor with a bath towel or terry towel, (try not to let the area you just cleaned dry on its own!) This is a very important step in keeping tiled floors and grout squeaky clean. Tip! Once you wet mop a floor the dirt is now emulsified and towel drying will remove the now dirty liquid leaving your tile and grout clean and free off contamination. Remember moisture evaporates dirt does not. Re: Show us your matt porcelain tiling 11Dec 20, 2010 1:59 pm For ease of cleaning if you want a matt floor go for a glazed porcelain tile not a full body vitirified floor tile. We are opting for 600x600 tiles and as installation costs extra above 450 ($18sqm extra) wanted to know if it it is worth going 1.5mm grout..(which costs another $22sqm) I think no - given that we are going for a larger tile and it will be rectified edges..... but don't really know.. don't know if anyone has any feedback on this... however i'm sure i saw this topic in another thread Project History Deposit - 20/4/2010 Land Settled - 20/8/2010 Council - 30/9/2010 Slab - 17/11/2010 Bricks - 28/01/2011 Roof - 5/02/2011 Gyprock - 4/03/2011 Re: Show us your matt porcelain tiling 14Dec 20, 2010 6:18 pm Bagheera I'm currently looking at glazed porcelain tiles for our living areas but noticed on the invoice for our sample that the shop is recommending to seal them... I've got the matt tiles in the fossil colour and I'm very happy with them. They are instinsically sealed and will last forever ... maybe longer. They are about $92/m2, but you can probably get about $5 to $10 off this when quoted. Did they manage to flex on any other pricing? Glazed tiles do not need sealing never has and never will the only thing we seal these days is grout due to how porous it can be or natural porous stone. Craig Re: Show us your matt porcelain tiling 20Dec 21, 2010 3:07 pm Hi Grout Perfect, I didn't know you could seal the grout. How is this done and what does it mean to 'seal' the grout? Does it mean that 'most' stains can't penetrate it?
