Browse Forums Flooring & Floor Covering 1 Nov 17, 2010 7:20 pm Dear Ash, I would like to install SDN carpet from Tuffmaster, it is called St Helier. For the underlay, as you suggested, I'm planning to choose Prime as opposed to Excellay since it contains heavy metal called thrilibutin(?). But since one of my son suffers from pervasive developmental disorder which causes languange delay and social skill, I would like to know if SDN carpet would worsen the sympton since it has more chemical than wool carpet? Regard, Kov Re: SDN carpet impact on children behaviour 2Nov 22, 2010 12:21 pm I cannot assist on this one, sorry. You could ask the Carpet Institute of Australia. This link goes to their "healthy carpet" section > http://www.carpetinstitute.com.au/good_health/index.htm You could also ask the manufacturer. Tuftmaster makes both wool carpets and solution dyed nylon, so they wouldn't be biased either way. I think the VOC section on the Carpet Institute web site may help you though. That carpet is a good quality carpet. It's a heavy weight and made well. You should also check out the Smartstrand carpet at your local Harvey Norman store (Castle Hill, Blacktown, Penrith or Auburn ??), its made from 37% corn and is more natural than 100% SDN. It is also superior in staining and durability too. Failing all of that, stick to a wool carpet. Wool carpets are great for air quality. They can actually absorb some VOC's and harmful chemicals in the air and lock them into the fibre, making the air quality in a house with wool carpet better than other houses. Harvey Norman have a range of wool carpets called Naturally Smart. They are pure wool and 80/20. You get a 15 year warranty of staining and wear, plus the benefits of being wool - so the best of both worlds ! It's up to you. Best of luck. Re: SDN carpet impact on children behaviour 5Dec 10, 2010 6:48 pm I'd hope there was no corn left in it by the time it was carpet, or my Labrador would have a crack at it 1 8166 1 12678 they can, it's a fairly standard solution when the slab isn't recessed. the falls need to be in the main floor, if it hasn't been done then you need to ask them to redo… 4 5037 |
