Browse Forums Flooring & Floor Covering 1 Oct 21, 2010 9:29 am Hi All I'm a new member, so please be kind. I have been reading up on the old posts in regards to various carpets, underlays and methods of stretching. We are looking for carpet our new home, it is for bedrooms only. We are a young family so the carpet needs to be able to cope with this and last. So far we have liked the look of carpet courts Quest Aurora 60oz twist pile heavy duty carpet. It is a SDN carpet. We have been quoted 218blm with carpet courts top of the range FOAM underlay.(Was told that dunlop prime is "only" rubber and this was better by the shop, mentioned trampolining and he said it would be fine). Questions I have are- Is this a good price for the Sydney region, we dont mind paying the extra for a better carpet/job but dont want to get ripped off? When I asked about knee knocking over power stretching I was told that in the small space of a bed room knee knocking would be ok and if there was any issues they would sort it out, no price was mentioned. I did forget to ask how they seam seal if at all, as the master will require a join. Any information would be greatly appreciated. Cheers Russ Re: Carpet and underlay? 2Oct 21, 2010 2:01 pm All carpet is recommended by the manufacturers, to be power-stretched, even a "small space of a bedroom". Knee-kicking your job might be OK for a while, and when/if it bubbles in a few years, good luck getting them back to re-stretch it at no cost. Regards to seam sealing, all seams should be sealed [ specs of the manufacturer ] before being heatbond joined, but the reality is that not many layers do it. I power-stretch all jobs and I have never had to go back to restretch any jobs. I, personally, would only seam-seal that particular carpet, if the latex was a bit 'hungry' on the edge of the carpet, I seam-seal all continuous filliment carpets though. Re: Carpet and underlay? 3Oct 21, 2010 2:14 pm What part of Sydney are you in ? For the same price, you could get Smartstrand in a heavy weight. I can also get someone to give you a competitive price on the SDN from Quest. Re: Carpet and underlay? 4Nov 08, 2010 8:59 pm anthony_carter What part of Sydney are you in ? Anthony - we are in a similar boat, looking for about 80 sqm of carpet (supply+install) for all the bedrooms, heavy duty wool, 45 oz - or so. Anyone you'd recommend in Sydney? Thanks Eugene Re: Carpet and underlay? 5Nov 09, 2010 7:26 am cezar_oz anthony_carter What part of Sydney are you in ? For the same price, you could get Smartstrand in a heavy weight. If you go to HN Moore Park, ask to see Leon Waxman. He is a really nice guy, and has been in flooring his whole life. He is very well regarded in the industry and will give you great advice and steer you in the right direction. Leon is the franchisee of the flooring store there at Moore Park HN, so he can get busy. If you call first and make a time to see him, it will be well worth it. Tell him I recommended him and promised you he'd work you out a deal:) Good luck. Hi l plan to install a self adhesive vinyl plank floor. l first need to attach masonite boards underlay to by plywood subfloor of my house.
