Browse Forums Flooring & Floor Covering 1 Oct 17, 2010 12:21 pm Hi there I am new to the forum so please forgive me if this question has been asked a billion times before. I am currently having a house built and as my husband is a project manager of a construction company we haven't had any issues until now. We are at the stage in our home where the floor tiles are being laid. The problem is that the tiles near the skirting is cut uneven and there are massive gaps in some places too! Just wondering if this is something that has to be rectified or do I just have to deal with it? I haven't spoken to the builders about it yet as I am not sure what to say and was hoping someone on here can help me out? Thatnks in advace Re: Uneven tiling :( 2Oct 18, 2010 12:44 am Hi Marna, welcome to the forum. Just one question 1st - has your skirting already gone down?? The skirting, ideally, should be put in after the tiling has been completed. If the skirting isn't installed yet then the gaps will be covered once the skirting goes down so this is why tilers don't worry too much about the gaps at the walls where the skiting goes. If the skirting is already down then NO you don't have to put up with it. Any good tiler will still have the tiles meet the walls without an awful gap. Only a shotty tiler would leave you with that sort of a finish and I would be asking HIM to fix it before I pay him. The tiler should've done the setting out before laying his 1st tile- that would allow for the tile to meet the wall flush. Hope that helps. Suzy Re: Uneven tiling :( 3Oct 20, 2010 9:02 am This is sometimes normal as the gaps will be siliconed over well should be anyway and suzy is right skirting boards after tiles installed for a better finish.
