I had a local guy (well Cairns anyway) who looked like he was going to finish the floors for me, but he has a last minute freak out at using the Treatex on such a huge job when hasn't used it before. He is worried he will stuff it up. SO, it comes back to being able to get G from WW to come up but I need to get the floor sanded by the local bloke before 20th Nov as G is going away . Lets hope it does pan out...otherwise ...dunno RF Build: viewtopic.php?f=38&t=34534 Flooring: viewtopic.php?f=7&t=39733 Chat: viewtopic.php?f=36&t=53303 Re: OMG...floor adhesive issues...solved, solved, solved 43Nov 05, 2010 8:55 pm I think your pine floors are going to look gorgeous with Treatex 'treating' them I've seen one floor with T and it looks so natural, but with added bonus of subtle shine. It is so hard to convince people who haven't heard of it or used it that it will be good...they keep talking about the wear and tear and life expectancy of the product . But a huge majority (or should I say 99% of them) never heard of Treatex. My signature is distracting people from my wise posts ... Re: OMG...floor adhesive issues...solved...or not 46Nov 07, 2010 7:35 am I am really OVER trying to sort out this floor. Local guy bloke' sand-only price was was $$$so that is a no-go, it would mean the price of the floor would more more than the glue-rip-off guy. Started ringing around for sand only prices. Finally got one guy whose price was good, he called G at WW who is still going to come up but new guy is going to help G put the Treatex down. Still have to organise airfares though and tell the other local guy his services are not required, this bit stresses me out. So my floor will be sanded and polished with a hardwax oil by the 19th Nov. I hope. I hope nothing else goes wrong. In the meantime, can you show us a bit of your new raw floor? BTW, I think it's quite good that people who have never used a product are reluctanct to do it. Much better getting someone who knows the potential issues and has experience. Last thing I'd want is for someone to train themselves on my new floor This is true, but he said if it was a small area he would do it because if he stuffed it up it wouldn't be too costly to try and fix. From my reading and conversation with people, if you are a flooring person, this particular product is not hard to use, and G mentioned above is more than happy to discuss its application in detail. pics for your viewing pleasure. This is not the completed floor, haven't loaded those up yet, but you get the idea. If you get G up should be no dramas, my only tips are to soak the tin in hot water for 10 minutes prior to coating, and to apply the coats thinly. Doesnt cost anything and helps with viscosity. Other floor sanders probably wouldnt be that fussy, but it works for me. This job was in old farmhouse which had been restored to its original beauty. The nice things about Cypress (Murray Pine) is that its hard enough to put up with a bit of rough treatment, plus its also termite resistant and its one of the only timbers on the market which has a lot of natural feature - and of course its cheaper than the regular hardwoods!
