This job was in old farmhouse which had been restored to its original beauty. The nice things about Cypress (Murray Pine) is that its hard enough to put up with a bit of rough treatment, plus its also termite resistant and its one of the only timbers on the market which has a lot of natural feature - and of course its cheaper than the regular hardwoods! And that is exactly why we always wanted it BTW G is a lovely fellow. Very nice Treatex seems to have more shine than I thought, too. And I didn't realise your house has a steel frame. When are you expecting to move in? The photos don't do it justice Lex, looks even better in real life. It isn't very shiny in reality. We used the "lustre" level of sheen but there is so much light coming into the house that the camera picks it up. We definitely didn't want "glossy". Hoping to have it finished before Christmas. Its possible but anything can happen namtrak Winner I definitely feel like we have had a win on this one in the end! If he gets paint (wall and/or enamel) on the finished floor, what is safe to use to get it off? I am assuming turps is out, what about metho???? I have no idea what would be "safe" for Treatex, but I guess you can also check with G? I know that Treatex is a penetrating type of coating (not film building), so I suppose if you need to scrub it hard, the finish would of course be very much thinned out. But, being oil, I also think (and from memory and reading about T), it is easy to spot repair. I would check with G. Funny as I just wanted to ask you if G did all the floor prep for sanding, eg. filling holes, small gaps between butt ends and gaps between boards (that is, if there were any ) etc. On some pics it looks like some holes are left as - holes? BTW, did your installer put any wedges at the walls and if yes, who and when took them out (do they have to stay there until sanding)? And how long was it between the installation completion and start of sanding? My signature is distracting people from my wise posts ... Re: OMG...floor adhesive issues...solved...YAY finally. 78Nov 27, 2010 6:54 am Thanks Lex, G is away but DH pointed out his business partner is in Melbourne so will have to call Monday. No G didn't do the infilling etc, that was done by some locals and there are some small gaps but not really any holes. Some of the filler has sunk in a couple of places. I am not overly concerned, just glad the floor is finished they way I would like. No wedges used at all and it was several (3 I think) weeks after installation before sanding. Our gyprock comes down to 25mm off the floor to allow expansion of the cypress underneath the skirtings. Is that what the wedges are about.
