Browse Forums Flooring & Floor Covering 1 Oct 10, 2010 9:38 pm Varies between installers, but why? Some only give 12 months, some 3 years, but most of them give 7 years warranty. Is it really important and what does it really cover? Obviously I'm not expecting anyone to warrant my floors on wear and tear (like scratches and dents), but what about their workmanship? What can happen to full timber floors 12 months after the installation? Coating bubbling or peeling off is what comes to mind (assuming that they followed all the rules about gaps etc.)? How much warranty did you get? Was it in writing, or is just the invoice enough? My signature is distracting people from my wise posts ... I went into a store today in Sydney to discuss timber floors. On the actual timber itself they gave 20 years but the installation was only 12 months. Was not impressed by 12 months. Is this standard? Can someone share their experiences? Re: Warranty on installation of timber floors 5Dec 29, 2011 7:42 pm Sorry for missing your post Lex! On the flooring itself it depends on the manufactures warranties. And are you talking about real timber floors or floating timber floors? As far as installation warranties, 12 months is good…..you really only need ½ an hour to see if the jobs done right, if not you complain there and then and it should be fixed. Some places offer 7 years warranty on installation but I guess you are right. 12 months seems sufficient. Maybe 7 years is a selling point. I'm talking about real timber floors. He offered me $105 per metre installed for Australian Timber. Jarrah to be exact. Seems pretty good to me. Re: Warranty on installation of timber floors 7Jan 19, 2012 4:43 am Ummmh... sorry about the delay ... Anyway, I guess one full cycle (12 monhts / 4 seasons) should be enough to see if they made some installation "mistakes" (eg. (but not limited to ) not putting in appropriate expansion joints in full timber floors, or poor application of coating/finish, or non-adequate prep of subfloor in some cases). Thanks Simon, I guess I'm no concerned with the volume of the noise rather that dead and hollow sound and feel that is associated with floating floors.
