Browse Forums Flooring & Floor Covering 1 Oct 09, 2010 8:23 pm We've got our tile selection meeting on monday and I've been thinking about our laundry. The plan Like ⋅ Add a comment ⋅ Pin to Ideaboard ⋅ So, we'll be having wooden floors of some sort- most likely engineered boards to the entry, kitchen, family and back hallway. I planned on having the same floor though to the scullery, since there is no door there, but do I need to put tiles in the laundry? The scullery and laundry will be having the same cupboards and splashback. thanks, all input welcome! my new build thread- Ben Trager https://forum.homeone.com.au/viewtopic.php?f=31&t=89826 my switch build thread (2011) https://forum.homeone.com.au/viewtopic.php?f=31&t=36569 Re: Flooring in laundry- advice before monday! 2Oct 09, 2010 9:09 pm My preference would definitely be for tiles in the laundry....no question, as you have an external door there and tiles are more suited to where you have a washing machine/tub and the possibility of drying wet clothes on a clothes rack. Re: Flooring in laundry- advice before monday! 3Oct 09, 2010 9:38 pm Wooden floors, frankly ..most people regard the laundry as a 'wet area', the reality is it's no wetter than a kitchen, how many kitchens have you seen with wooden floors? ...so why bother tiling it. Our laundry is off the kitchen. We have wood thru the house except the laundry and bathrooms, I think it looks fine. If u have a sample of your floorboard, take that with u to tile shop so u can make sure it doesnt clash. By the way, I dont know how Im helping you when I still cant pick my external colours and its only been like........MONTHS Re: Flooring in laundry- advice before monday! 11Oct 09, 2010 10:28 pm That'd work if we'd picked our floors already thristy! Imagine if the washing machine leaks! And washing powder being dropped on the floor, it will prob ruin your floorboards. And washing powder being dropped on the floor, it will prob ruin your floorboards. Mel That happens all the time I hardly ever see floor tiles in laundries these days. It happens to me a bit. If the door on the machine hasn't sealed properly I quite often get leaks. Not bad ones, but there will be a bit of water sitting on the floor and if I'm not home or don't go in there for a bit, it will be there for a while. I'd go tiles, you have a cavity slider inbetween those two areas, so it will separate them as being two areas. I'd go something neutral, then at least it will go with any boards you choose Re: Flooring in laundry- advice before monday! 16Oct 10, 2010 11:19 am In all my life i've never *touch wood* had a washing machine leak, but I guess thats why most builders make it a "wet' area It going to be a normal door, not the cavity slider, so it will be separated... my new build thread- Ben Trager https://forum.homeone.com.au/viewtopic.php?f=31&t=89826 my switch build thread (2011) https://forum.homeone.com.au/viewtopic.php?f=31&t=36569 Re: Flooring in laundry- advice before monday! 17Oct 10, 2010 8:06 pm TheOK Wooden floors, frankly ..most people regard the laundry as a 'wet area', the reality is it's no wetter than a kitchen, how many kitchens have you seen with wooden floors? ...so why bother tiling it. Not so much as looking at them, but entering them, it's the current trend and has been for a several years, volume builders always lag behind the trends of custom built homes. In a few years from now a similar thread will probably pop up and I'll read the responses with my tongue pushing my cheek. Re: Flooring in laundry- advice before monday! 19Oct 10, 2010 9:14 pm I'll have to keep an eye out as thus far this 'trend' has eluded me Re: Flooring in laundry- advice before monday! 20Oct 10, 2010 9:19 pm I like tiles in the laundry, particularly when wet clothes, towels, shoes etc make their way to the floor I find them much easier to keep clean and not concerned with spills from the mop bucket or anything else. It's the one room all the mess ends up to be sorted and I'd rather not have to worry about maintenance of the flooring.
