Browse Forums Flooring & Floor Covering 1 Oct 05, 2010 10:53 am Hello We moved into our house mid August, and I've been feeling off colour ever since. First it was weeks of fatigue (which I attributed to the stress of moving and working and studing at the same time), then since last Monday I have had really bad headaches, been feeling nauseus, bad fatigue again. Someone suggested to me that fumes from new carpet can make people sick. Has anyone heard of this before? I opened all the windows in the house for the first time over the weekend, just tried to air the house out. And I have to say I did feel a little better when I woke up the next day from doing this. Just a bit clearer in the head if that makes sense, but I don't know if this is a coincidence or not. Other poeple have scoffed at this idea, and said even if it was fumes I wouldn't be reacting this long after moving in. So I'm interested if anyone has heard of this before, or experienced this before. Re: Carpet fumes? 2Oct 05, 2010 12:58 pm Yep ...carpet, vinyl, paint, silicone etc. can do that, some people are more sensitive than others... it'll pass, though I'm surprised it hasn't already. Open the doors and windows and turn your heating on it'll draw air through the house faster. Re: Carpet fumes? 3Oct 05, 2010 2:07 pm Thanks for the reply, I think I must be one of the unlucky ones that is more sensitive to it. My husband doesn't really seem to be affected. Although he did think he may have had headaches more regularly, but nothing too severe. Well I have been reading up on the internet, seems all the information agrees I should ventilate the house as much as possible. Our bedroom in partcular isn't that well ventilated, and prior to the weekend, I hadn't ever opened the windows or turned the ceiling fan on. I did notice it smelt a lot, but I didn't realise it could be making me sick. Other ideas I found were to put onions in a bowl of water in each room, and sprinkle baking soda on the carpets, leave overnight then vacuum the next day. Not sure how much those ideas will help but I guess I have nothing to lose. And i feel blody terrible now! Re: Carpet fumes? 4Oct 10, 2010 12:36 pm VOC's. Nearly everything has them. Fresh air will fix. Somepeople are more sensitive than others as it's already been commented. 1 11003 1 15753 they can, it's a fairly standard solution when the slab isn't recessed. the falls need to be in the main floor, if it hasn't been done then you need to ask them to redo… 4 6581 |
