Browse Forums Flooring & Floor Covering 1 Oct 04, 2010 11:28 am floating laminate floor goes in tomorrow had to get a sanding guy come out and level the chipboard yellow tounge floor he walked his sander around the living / dining area then sanded the joins along teh hallway all up it took him 2.5 hrs he slugged me SIX HUNDRED DOLLARS. when i questioned him he went ' it would have been at least 500 for cash (i paid by check ) he had to sand not just the joins .. yadda yadda..' we only found out at the last minute we needed this done. The installer told us on Wed night, with floor going in Tues he recommended 'his guy' is this a normal price, or have we been jacked ? $600 to walk a sander over a floor for 2.5 hrs ... Im in the wrong game Re: floor sand - did i get ripped ? 2Oct 04, 2010 11:45 am How uneven was the particle board - and in what method is the laminate being laid? If its being laid over a foam underlay it has always been my understanding that the foam would help mask any unevenness in the substrate below. If you're going down the direct stick path though, I guess it may be more important to have all levels spot on. Re: floor sand - did i get ripped ? 5Oct 04, 2010 1:58 pm When the old floor was pulled up, how uneven was the particle board? To be honest, I've never had the particle board sanded before having floating floors installed (on a foam underlay)... If the floor was fairly even then I don't see what the need would be as the underlay helps even the surface out (IYKWM). If there was some significant hight difference between the sheets of particle board then sanding the floor can help reduce the risk of having your floating floor sound 'drummy' underfoot. Re: floor sand - did i get ripped ? 6Oct 04, 2010 4:03 pm Did he tell you how much before he started? Also you should find out how much a square meter he charges. To give you an idea, i had a guy come and sand 120m2 of concrete for me, so i could lay commercial vinyl down. He charged me $3 a m2 + gst. Now i feathered the floor first so admittedly it only required a "light" sand, took him just under 2 hours, but i would assume sanding concrete for vinyl would be a tad more tedious than sanding chipboard for a floor laid on underlay!! Maybe im wrong, hopefully a timber layer will come on here soon and help you out. Re: floor sand - did i get ripped ? 7Oct 04, 2010 7:01 pm he said his min charge was $400, it could be as high as $600 if its a massive job. The guy at the flooring shop said he had spoken to the installer and it could be as little as $200.. i was boxed in a corner as i needed it done with no notice, and he said ' i need to know, i dont wanna drive out there have a look and you say no ...' when he said $600, my first response was ' you gotta be kidding ..' then i just wanted him outta my house i just would like to know if this is a 'normal price' or was i jibbed. the are is roughly 50 sq m, job took 2.5 hrs just walking a sander around a bit .... i am in the wrong biz I'm putting a new floor in my kitchen, slate flagging on a standard concrete slab. I have allowed for a bed thickness of up to 20mm to accommodate the different… 0 17545 2 4356 2 8890 |
