Hi all timber flooring people out there
Did you take any notice of how much glue or nails or staples (or whatever it was) did your floor installer use for fixing your full timber boards to particleboard or plywood?
Only asking because I heard completely opposite "rules" - one lot swearing that nails won't hold after a season or two and that it is the glue that does the work (therefore, they literally use bucket loads of it, since nails lose their grip into chipboard eventually / quickly); the other ones are laughing it off and saying that only a thin strip of glue is sufficcient. Some also say that lots of glue could be asking for trouble since the timber then can't move or something.
On top of that, some are only fixing the boards every 600mm and not any closer (nail and glue on the same line). Others are a bit better at around 450mm. Is this too "thin"?!??! Has anyone's floor loosened up and started going up and down the nails?
