Browse Forums Flooring & Floor Covering 1 Sep 27, 2010 9:56 am So my carpet layers came in this morning to install my carpets. After a quick bout of inspection, the boys told me that the WIR doors won't fit after the carpet installation. I had 6 different people come in to measure and give me a quote, how is it that none of them picked this up? Now I have to get my (six) freshly painted WIR doors shaved at the bottom to get them to fit?? Can someone recommend a good and affordable carpenter (?) in Melbourne to help me with this job? Thanks! I think they just raised the railing thing. Not sure but the owner of the company came and fixed it in about 10mins. Re: WIR doors won't fit after carpet installation- an oversi 3Sep 27, 2010 12:35 pm Unfortunately this happens all too often. No ones fault really, its hard for chippys to gauge the height to set the doors at. As for the salesman, unless they bring a piece of underlay and carpet with them to test the door heights there is not much they can do either. If your good with your hands maybe give it a go yourself to save a few dollars, or you can ring the place you bought your flooring from, usually they have people they recommend that can shave the doors for you. I will call up the retailer. I would probably wreck the whole door. Hahaha! Turns out, only 4 out of the 6 WIR doors need to be shorten. Not sure why. I'm not sure if it's because the floor is not level, or if the carpet is not laid properly. But the carpet seems to be stretched ok (it doesn't have any bumps or ripples). But another headache in the form of the main entrance door just emerged. Now I'm not sure if I can shorten that door! It's grazing on the carpet pretty badly, leaving 'skid marks' when I open/close the door Signed: June 2010 | Settlement: September 2010 | Moved in: October 2010 Re: WIR doors won't fit after carpet installation- an oversi 5Sep 27, 2010 5:49 pm The entrance door will obviously need to be cut as well. If there is too much of a gap when closed after it is cut, you may need a fit a draft excluder, being an outside door. The doors should have plenty of timber on the bottoms to be trimmed.
