In our current home we have slate tiles and jarrah floorboards. The jarrah looks nice but shows up any dust (am not good at dusting and the slate tiles look horrible and require care - which I dont give! I think I would really love polished concrete but for the cost - it seems very expensive. Our house will be thermally efficient so only tiles are left. Can anyone give me any advice on how to pick a good tile and what sort of grouting to use such that its almost bullet proof and doesnt need a lot of upkeep? Re: New home - I need help in deciding what flooring to use 2Sep 22, 2010 7:46 pm With tiles, I suggest you get them properly sealed - there are some threads floating around here from recent months about sealing tiles/grout. However, with any kind of hard floor, you do need to sweep/mop regularly. Dust will accumulate, dirt gets tracked in and so on. Dark or stark solid pale colours show dirt; look for something more speckled by nature if you don't want it to be obvious when you've misplaced the broom.
