Browse Forums Flooring & Floor Covering 1 Sep 22, 2010 2:16 pm Hi all Started to look at carpets, yet another pain in the rear. Color, pile, wool or nylon, twist, plush, pattern or plain and so many to choose from. I like this carpet at floor world. Its brank was Crown but it was made from "cromeolon." WTF is that. As it turned out the sales guy came clean and said it was polyester. Is polyester any good? Any one got Crown carpet? Any opinions on underlay, I like the top range super blue rubber. So many different opinions depending on what they want to sell you or have in stock. I get the feel its all BS from the carpet sellers. So let know if you have crown carpet or have an opinon on what I should got for as they all look the same to me. Re: Polyester carpet ? 2Sep 22, 2010 2:40 pm Hi KW, you will have to walk on that carpet for years. My choice would be for the best underlay you can get and good quality pure wool carpet on top. Re: Polyester carpet ? 3Sep 23, 2010 3:57 pm Hi Dove Yes, you only get what you pay for. I guess I should spend the extra and get a better quality carpet and be happy with it. As you said I have to walk on it for years and also look at it for years so the color is also importaint. Re: Polyester carpet ? 4Oct 10, 2010 12:52 pm STAY AWAY from a poylester carpet. I didn't know anyone had the audacity to still sell polyester carpets ?? Polyester will shed heaps for EVER, as its a spun yarn (unless its changed in recent years since I last saw it). It will FLATTEN fast as it has no memory (thats why the carpet will be like 60 ounces or more to compensate for the lack of performance of the individual yarn). It's not a cool carpet at all. You would be better off with a BCF synthetic yarn like a Nylon, Solution Dyed Nylon or Smartstrand OR buy a wool carpet. If you come in and see me, I am happy to give you a "no bs" 15 minute walk through so you know if what youre getting told is legit or "bs". I am in Chadstone.
