Browse Forums Flooring & Floor Covering 1 Sep 19, 2010 10:26 am Hi I'm in the market for an apartment and one of the improvements I intend to do straight away is replace the flooring with a timber laminate floating floor (been looking at HN's Timber Impressions for example) Now I want to try to avoid any beading or edging and going by my research this means I would need to remove all skirting boards as well as undercutting doorways and cabinets. Everywhere I read people are saying installing the flooring is a simple DIY job. I'm confident enough that I could rip up the existing flooring, try to remove the skirting without destroying the walls and lay the simple square shaped rooms but I don't know if I'm being over ambitious in thinking I'll be able to do the kitchen or hallway areas where there would be numerous doorways and cupboards. Without ever having seen a floor installed before I'm imagining the cutting of the boards to shape around doorways could be tricky. I want to keep the budget down as much as possible so I would like to avoid paying an installer for the rooms I should be able to complete i.e the squareish rooms with no obstructions, so is it possible to get installers to just do the tricky bits? if so can I start with the simple rooms and leave the tricky bits to be filled in or does it need to be done in one bulk job so it fits together? Alternatively should I just man up and try to do the whole lot myself? When it comes closer to the date I will be seeking advice on recommended floating floor brands/prices and potentially installers. Thanks in advance Re: Quick Question Regarding Floating Floor Installation 2Sep 20, 2010 11:57 am Installers are paid by the m2. So they win some lose some with easy / hard jobs. You just need to undercut your door, and slide your board under. You don't shape the board. It's not as hard as it looks. You can probably rent an undercut saw or use a piece of the laminate and get a flexible hand saw and put the laminate on the floor and use it to guide your height and then cut into the door jam and chisel it out. Thanks Simon, I guess I'm no concerned with the volume of the noise rather that dead and hollow sound and feel that is associated with floating floors. But I'm not sure… 3 6163 i would not be signing anything on the day read your contract about when builder submits final invoice generally, have to meet builder within 7 days of receiving final… 1 4747 Thanks, that's the motivation I needed to give it a try sooner rather than one day! 4 3014 |
