Browse Forums Flooring & Floor Covering 1 Sep 14, 2010 10:31 am Hi. We are replacing carpet in three bedrooms only. We are looking at Feltex Park Manor cut pile plush in 'Chalk' colour. What brand/model of underlay should we consider for this type of carpet and application? i.e. Springtread or Airstep? Some posts have recommended Dunlop Excellay for domestic application....any advice? Are there any specific questions we should be asking the seller? I have read about power-stretching vs hand stretching....is this important? Do skirting boards need to be removed before carpet can be laid? We are likely to buy from Western Distributors in Sunshine. Anyone had any issues with them or their layers? Any advice anyone can provide would be appreciated. Choice can be stressful! Re: Carpet questions 2Sep 14, 2010 11:16 am Hi, I don't know those underlays enough to make a recommendation, but I believe in getting as good a quality as the budget allows, as a top quality underlay will extend the life of the carpet. The skirting boards are left in place for carpet laying. Most types of carpet give a better result down the track ( ) with power stretching, as it stretches the carpet more evenly. In some areas where the power stretcher will not fit, the layer will have to use a knee stretcher. You could ring the carpet manufacturer to ask what they think, if there is no recommendation printed on the back of the carpet. With medium to thick pile carpets it will be necessary to use a tack strip, called Smoothedge. There are 2 qualities, domestic (2 lines of tacks) and architectural (3 lines of tacks). On a medium plush pile carpet or better I would ask for the architectural quality, which may mean any old tack strip has to be pulled up first. Cheers Re: Carpet questions 3Sep 14, 2010 1:08 pm Western Distributors laid my nephews carpet, did a good job. I think he got two different underlays, upstairs and downstairs, i think he got a premium one for upstairs - to help cut down noise and a medium one for downstairs rooms. I was wondering if anyone here has carpet throughout their apartment, but using different carpet pattern in the bedrooms? For example, plain unpatterned carpet in the living area and a similar tone carpet but with specks/boxes in the bedroom. Also, so many brandsssssss of carpet ... what's an okay brand? I'm looking for a mid- to high-range nylon cut pile twist for the living area and something more plush for the bedrooms. Would appreciate some feedback, and photos are welcomed Signed: June 2010 | Settlement: September 2010 | Moved in: October 2010 1 11004 1 15753 they can, it's a fairly standard solution when the slab isn't recessed. the falls need to be in the main floor, if it hasn't been done then you need to ask them to redo… 4 6584 |
