Browse Forums Flooring & Floor Covering 1 Sep 08, 2010 10:54 am Hi there! Just wondered if anyone has advice on either Vinyl tiles in a timber look or ceramic tiles for our house. We live on a farm so the house can at times get alot of dirt through it. Plus we have 3 young children who are well quite active!!!!!!!! I have heard different stories now from the flooring places I have been to but haven't really heard from people who have them in their house. One flooring guy (who doesn't sell ceramic tiles) told me to only go with ceramic tiles that he would never use the vinyl tiles, this really confused me as he totally did himself out of a sale Would really love to see some pictures of houses with the vinyl tiles if your willing to share Thanks in advance. NitchFarm Re: Vinyl Timber look Tiles or Ceramic Tiles????? 2Sep 08, 2010 1:13 pm I had a decent quality timber look vinyl through my massage therapy clinic, it was very easy on the feet and super easy to keep clean, didn't see greasy footprints etc ... loved it. Only downside was if it tore ... I ended up with a small tear in the vinyl after I dragged a buffet forward instead of lifting (so my fault). Through the house I had tiles, they are easy to keep clean as well, but the grout discoloured very quickly - I would recommend getting the grout sealed before using them, it's not cheap, but it's what I'll be doing next time around as I couldn't stand looking at the discoloured spots in the grout. ~ trying to build our dream home by the sea ~ Re: Vinyl Timber look Tiles or Ceramic Tiles????? 3Sep 09, 2010 3:45 pm Ceramics are colder, they chip, they are often slippery. If your kids fall on them, it will hurt. The grout goes bad. I don't like them, or understand why people buy them. A good quality PVC plank will be warmer, won't chip, not as slippery, are better acoustically. They can easily be repaired too (keep some spares for a rainy day). Re: Vinyl Timber look Tiles or Ceramic Tiles????? 4Sep 09, 2010 3:49 pm Thanks Anthony, any chance you could recommend a high quality brand that has good wear value at a good price? I want to do the whole house with it except the laundry, bathroom and bedrooms. Re: Vinyl Timber look Tiles or Ceramic Tiles????? 5Sep 09, 2010 5:34 pm Amtico have a good range at $39 M2 called Spacia. It has a point 3 wear layer which is standard for domestic ranges. I also have Allure, which is a floating PVC plank, same wear layer. Interested in getting either the Polytec Boston Oak or Palace Peak for kitchen cabinets. Looking at the Boston Oak ones, it appears that the colour varies significantly… 0 9186 Levelling compound Ardit is the best but buy a bag of sand and make sand dam to protect your wood floor 2 15259 Engineering timber is certainly a less fuss option, times cheaper to supply and install and better withstands humidity. 1 15924 |
