Browse Forums Flooring & Floor Covering 1 Sep 02, 2010 10:00 pm After spending a few days at a holiday home with polished concrete floors, I 'd love to have them in our new place. My husband spoke with the builder and was advised that if we went for polished concrete, it would be about an ADDITIONAL $35K above the $24K which has already been allowed for our slab/footings. Sadly, if this is correct, there's no way we can get the concrete but I'm hoping there is another option. Just hoping to find out if this is something worth pursuing or not... Re: Polished concrete flooring - does this sound right to yo 4Sep 05, 2010 9:52 pm Would that be the increase in cost of going to 32mpa concrete over usual 20mpa? More details would be great, such as slab type, ground type, etc. Building tip No. 3: A raft slab will not get you down a river. A waffle pod slab does not go with maple syrup. Re: Polished concrete flooring - does this sound right to yo 6Sep 06, 2010 3:41 pm Hmmm 20 to 32 mpa is about $14 cu mtr... so I think not. Also finishing concrete for a polished floor is less work than finishing for a standard floor. Though one does need to know what to look for when placing. The cost for the special mix is likely about double the cost of standard concrete. Hope this helps Where you are coming from is where you are going to... Hope this helps 20 to 32 is 14m3 but is that retail or trade...or builder marked up...this would be same as some people paying x$ extra for stone rather than laminate whilst Ceaserstone costs $350 a sqaure metre. Special mix doubling cost....is that $200 to $400 or $50 to $100? Not trying to justify the 35k, but could be a fair bit different between a 150 sqm house versus a 500 sqm house. I think you missunderstood....not saying rate is cheaper for 500sqm as compared to 150sqm. I am saying 35k for a 500 sqm lay is more reasonable than 35k for a 150sqm lay.
