Browse Forums Flooring & Floor Covering 1 Aug 19, 2010 1:03 pm We just had the biggest ordeal carpeting our elderly friends place. We went to a pretty established franchise (carpet right) thinking we would be safer. After selecting the carpet it all began to go down hill as contractors got involved who act independently of the company. It was an ordeal that really aged our elderly friend and stressed her beyond reasonable-not turning up at the time or DAY that they said and stringing things out for 2 weeks rather than the promised one morning. Honestly I think it is best -go and buy your carpet and select your own contractor as then at least they will feel personally responsible to you- the one who pays them rather than the company who will pay them regardless of how good a job they did. What have you guys done when laying carpet- DIY? contractor? Re: Cranky about carpet 2Aug 19, 2010 1:15 pm Gone through the carpet supplier and had them organise the layers. BUT in saying that - the layers were actually guys that DH grew up with so they did a brilliant job. Some things are worth waiting for. Re: Cranky about carpet 3Aug 19, 2010 5:27 pm Not sure what happened to cause that happen, but in general, you NEVER want to go it alone and find your own contractor as you'll get no real warranty on workmanship, and possible issues with warranties (as in the manufacturer goes down the "it's a laying fault" line). If I do a job, and it's not right because of a layer, I fix it with another layer, so you have greater protection in general. What excuse did they use ? Re: Cranky about carpet 4Aug 20, 2010 5:26 am I think sometimes with contractors of any kind you need to be able to stand your ground and not be a pushover or get the help of someone who can take that role for you. I recently had carpet installed and the installer did a fantastic job (and I told him so) but I did check what he was doing at each stage. That doesnt mean I stood over him but I went in and looked at what was done along the way. If I wasnt happy with the install I would have said so and held back the final payment and contacted the store right away and told them to get someone else out to fix it. You dont have to be a tyrant but if things arent done right then there is nothing wrong with standing your ground either. 1 10973 1 15704 they can, it's a fairly standard solution when the slab isn't recessed. the falls need to be in the main floor, if it hasn't been done then you need to ask them to redo… 4 6565 |
