Browse Forums Flooring & Floor Covering 1 Aug 06, 2010 10:40 pm Hi, We have been to Carpet Choice this afternoon and have chosen an Eternity carpet from the Erskine Range that we quite like the colour of. It is a Modulated Loop carpet and has 15 year stain/wear/colour fastness waranty and we are looking for something that is fairly stain resistant and hardy as we have 2 young children, so this seemed to fit the bill. The only other carpet that was on our radar was a Stainmaster sisal which also had the 15 year warranty. We thought we had made up our mind but have now read some "varying opinions" about the Eternity carpets. We are now wondering whether we should go for Eternity or Stainmaster. My feeling was that, quality wise, Stainmaster was the better of the two but my wife thinks the opposite. Any help would be greatly appreciated. Re: Eternity vs Staimmaster Carpet 2Aug 07, 2010 12:00 am In the "old" days, Stainmaster was both a badge of quality white nylon, meaning a superior nylon with less dye sites (so it's more stain resistant) and because of minimum standards of production to use the brand, also a badge of quality construction. It is arguable if that can still be said, with the release of lower weights into the market in the past 10 years, in search of higher volumes. In saying that, it is still a superior white nylon in comparison to many carpets, and purchased in a weight above say 30 ounces will be fine. Whilst I don't know the other carpet you mentioned, it is of a "solid", or pre-dyed nature and had the benefit of increased fade resistance due to this fact. Like the stainmaster fibre though, it can still stain, due to the fact it's still a nylon and still has dye sites. You'll have fewer colours to choose from too. What part of Australia are you in ? Re: Eternity vs Staimmaster Carpet 3Aug 07, 2010 12:41 am Hi Capt, I'm not too excited about the sisal style carpets you are looking at myself. Plain light linear style carpets such as this are not very aesthetically forgiving. The linear rows are very uniform, and lead the eye to every imperfection or spot. Traffic areas show due to the texture change affecting the shape of the pile rows. Sorry if this dashes your preferred carpet style, but I've cleaned hundreds of kilometers of it, and to me its a very 'average' carpet style. I'd just suggest that you expand the range of carpets you look at. Being in the ACT, you should consider the thermal insulating properties too. Thicker, more dense carpets will make your home more cosy. Ash. If you are in Canberra, then youll need to go to HN Fyshwick and see Tony McCosker. We were quite impressed with the sales pitch for the IQ150 but the quote we got for 4 bedrooms, lounge and stairs was way beyond our budget (we where quoted over $9,000 even with 20% off the carpet). We've since decided to only do the 4 bedrooms and the cost for the Eternity mentioned above was around $3400 which is much more too our liking. Bottom line is - it came down to budget. We have now decided on Eternity Portland Square range - Evening Haze colour. After doing a webseach, I'm 99% sure this is the Beaulieu Fenway Park ESD range - Mermaid colour (Not sure why Carpet Choice are selling it as Eternity insted of Beaulieu) - http://www.beaulieu.com.au/esd_colour.php?id=7&cid=511. As I said this seems to fit our budget much better, looks good and has a soft feel underfoot compared to others in our price range as well as having a 15 year stain resistance gaurantee, so this is the current choice for us (haven't commited yet). Thanks for your advice Anthony and, from what I've seen of the IQ150, it does seem like a good carpet just not in our price range unfortunately. Cheers, Capt Re: Eternity vs Staimmaster Carpet 7Aug 07, 2010 10:44 pm No worries. I understand. The Lounge must be really big to cause such a difference ! It's a shame the IQ didn't work for you. In saying that, SDN is a good choice and until Smartstrand came along was the premier synthetic fibre. So I am sure your new SDN carpet will serve you well. A pity you're not in Melbourne as o could have sorted something out for you!
