Browse Forums Flooring & Floor Covering 1 Jul 28, 2010 5:32 pm Hi We are purchasing laminate timber boards for our new home. We have picked these as we will be replacing them in 10 years or so, something that the kids can wreck a little while they are young. Our house is 34 sq. Approx less than half of that will be laminate floors. Lets say 16sq. Can someone help me work out the cost of installation and purchase. The boards are $26.95 a sq m. The installation is $25 a sq m. We have a quote, but I am hoping someone can work it out for me based on the above figures, so I know if we are getting a good deal or not. Thanks! Re: Quote for laminate timber boards help with costing 2Jul 28, 2010 6:07 pm Thats roughly $8000 for about 160 sqm. I think it is a wise idea regarding the laminate flooring if it is going to get rough treatment for a few years. I made a business decision not to work with laminates, prefinished floors and the like - however I do think they have their place. And yours is the prime example. To install a hardwood floor, supplied, sanded and finished over 160 sqm could be anything upto $30,000 Re: Quote for laminate timber boards help with costing 3Jul 28, 2010 9:42 pm Thanks heaps, that's about what I worked it out to be too. We got a referral to a friend of a friend and he has given us a discount, but I thought ("that cant be right!!"), when I worked it out. Turns out to be a great discount!! Just wanted to check. Thanks!! Re: Quote for laminate timber boards help with costing 4Jul 29, 2010 12:38 pm We are also doing laminate in the lower level living areas for the same reason, young kids!! What brand laminate are you getting? I think that makes the difference in knowing if you are getting a good deal or not and what mm boards? I have been quoted $2700 supply only for 70 sq m of laminate. We are going to lay it ourselves. That works out to be $36 a sq m for Quick Step Eligna. It is costing us $3700 for 7mm and 130 sq m approx. The brand is 'tarkett'. Thanks for the info Re: Quote for laminate timber boards help with costing 6Jul 30, 2010 9:42 pm You shouldn't be paying a dollar more than $2500 for a 7 mm, that's WITH underlay. I can get you into an 8mm for the same price! Your laying should sit around the same again, so about $5k all up (based on 130 m2). He isn't doing you a Mates rate at all, more like come on spinner !!!!
Re: Quote for laminate timber boards help with costing 8Jul 30, 2010 10:27 pm I am putting 12mm Timber laminate incl underlay installed in my entire house (approx 150sqm) for about $11000 and couldn't be happier Really dislike carpet (have allergies so was never going to have it if I could avoid it) and reckon it looks great. Should last a little while too as no little tackers yet Cheers Rob Re: Quote for laminate timber boards help with costing 9Jul 31, 2010 8:46 am Rob, are you in Melbourne ? I could save you at least $1000, if not $1500 on that price. Re: Quote for laminate timber boards help with costing 10Jul 31, 2010 12:05 pm What's a good price on floating engineered timber floors (the thin veneer of timber on top) and which underlay is best to use and how thick the underlay should be? Installation costs too if possible, thanks My signature is distracting people from my wise posts ... Re: Quote for laminate timber boards help with costing 11Jul 31, 2010 2:57 pm Timber costs are varied on species first and second the nature of the board (ie a 3 strip, 2 strip and 1 strip). 1strip, or single plank being more expensive than a double plank (2 strip). Etc. What species of engineered are you looking for ? Re: Quote for laminate timber boards help with costing 12Jul 31, 2010 5:38 pm Thanks, Anthony. I totally neglected to say those things (even though I knew about them) OK, basically want some naturally light (ash to light brown) colour, 1 plank. Don't want a light colour which flirts with orange, red, pink or very golden / deep honey colour, just clear very light brown. I saw a product (new to me ) today at HN - called "Naturally Australian" apparently 'Made in Boral' . Saw a lovely blackbutt there - that's the pretty, natural light brown colour I'm talking about (somewhat similar to Big River's engineered blackbutt colour, but maybe less variation in colour). The only issue is the variety of colour in both those floors - they are both a much more varied colour than the solid blackbutt!! Also, I am surprised how come the engineered blackbutt doesn't have that typical orangey/pinky/golden/yellow tone of solid bbtt The HN guy said that this product is newer than the Silkwood. He also said it's better than Silkwood. My signature is distracting people from my wise posts ... Re: Quote for laminate timber boards help with costing 13Jul 31, 2010 5:53 pm I didn't pay attention to this before - but I finally noticed a huge difference in showrooms between solid timber floors and engineered ones - the latter having virtually no gaps or changes after being laid. All solid floors have gaps, some of them are shocking ... My signature is distracting people from my wise posts ... Got very little choice of flooring companies due to builder requirements but not too fussed and really had a good look at the product, did a bit of a shop around and (the big clincher) their customer service was exceptional. Sorry I forgot to mention it included the installation Its not a good price and the 7mm tarkett is not a good laminate go somewhere else. Re: Quote for laminate timber boards help with costing 17Aug 03, 2010 8:57 am Can anyone point me in the direction of a light coloured, 1 plank engineered AUS timber (preferrably blackbutt ) of good quality (not tassie oak, it's too soft)? Must be a uniform colour, not like I've seen in Boral's and Big River's blackbutt which has the best colour on the light part, but a third of the boards are very dark My signature is distracting people from my wise posts ... Re: Quote for laminate timber boards help with costing 18Aug 04, 2010 6:38 am Lex, sorry I have been busy in my shop. Ahhh, you need to a) hand pick every plank or b) buy a laminate. Those variations are there. They are not going away. IF anyone guarantees a particular shade or colour they are promising something they cannot provide. If you LOVE timber and timber flooring you'll love the variations (sometimes extreme ones). Or buy an Aussie Species 2.2 Long laminate (2 new colours arrive this week). if it's going to bug you to have a random laid floor with various colors throughout, you must buy a laminate, or you'll go Nuts !!!! I love the variations in Timber, but many don't. Re: Quote for laminate timber boards help with costing 19Aug 04, 2010 6:44 am fanglord13 Nah, I'm in sunny Perth. Everyone would get better workmanship and everyone would be better off. Good luck with your floor mate. I'm about to put down some Merbau.
